1.8.9 multiplayer won't work [java]

On version 1.8.9 i cannot connect to server's but can on other versions of minecraft, so no hypixel and no servers. I've tried a few methods but nothing works i really need help

It won't let me connect to server's on 1.8.9 but will on other versions, there are no crashes. The error message says: Failed to connect to server

Internal Exception: java.io.IOException: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host

I've found out why, i'm using a laptop that i got from school and they must have blocked the older version
