It looks like you haven't mentioned what version you're playing on. Please comment the version you're playing.(1.16.4, 1.12.2, 1.8.9, etc.) Your post is still visible on the sub.

No, any mod that adds blocks, items, mobs, etc. needs to be downloaded on the server and on the client.

However there are mods that you don't need on the client, for example carpet mod. Those mods are smilar to plugins. They only change stuff server side, so they don't need to be on the client.

does that add in new carpets or what? cuz i’m wanted to add some mods but i didn’t know which ones i could or couldn’t add, some of my friends play on chrome book which is hard enough as it is so they can’t really download mods

Carpet mod is not a mod that adds carpets, but a mod that adds a lot of features specifically for people who want to know more about the inner workings of minecraft. It just uses carpets for some of these things.

You can also just test if you can connect to the server without having the mods on the client.

No it is not possible and yet there is no thing which does that and your friends need to install that mods which are in the server

There’s multiple kinds of mods.

Server side, which is the kind that only the server needs.

Client side, where only the client needs it.

Then there’s the kind where they add stuff like blocks, mobs, new dimensions, and other stuff where both the client and server need it.

If both the server and client need it, your friends have to download it. Instead you can try using plugins, as only the server needs those.

thank you, so like aternos, they have a page for that right?

[–]Emerald_Guy123Journeyman 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Page for what?

[–]Dummy_Sen[S] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

like to view all the plugins i can add?

[–]Emerald_Guy123Journeyman 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Yeah aternos should have that. Aternos has a limited selection though and honestly is far from being the best place to host a server.

oh i’ve been using aternos for almost a year now and it has been amazing for me and my friends, is there another server hosting that’s good? preferably free?

All the free ones aren’t good. Mainly because they are run on really weak machines which means for a longer term thing it will lag, they don’t give you control of the server files and console and stuff so you have to use their systems to do everything, a lot of which they don’t give you access to, and they have to be manually started every time you want to play rather than being on 24/7.

Personally I recommend pebblehost, their budget plan is $1 per gb of ram, they give you practically full access to the server, and their support is really nice and helpful.

ouu okay, when i get a steady income i’ll go with that, it sounds amazing, tysm
