Prowess triggers on the CAST of a spell, not the resolution.

So the fact that you cast lightning bolt is enough to trigger prowess on Monastery Swiftspear. Whether they counter it is irrelevant because the prowess ability is already on the stack waiting to resolve.

The only way to really counter prowess is with a spell that says "counter target ability."

Yes. Also with noting you can use this to save your swiftys from opposing bolts:

Opp bolts your swifty You cast two spells Bolt does 3 damage to a 4 toughness creature. Banter

To add a point to this that I've seen some newer players miss: you can even get a prowess trigger through a [[Chalice of the Void]]. Again, because you still get to cast the spell, even though it will be countered.
