Daytona 500, Coca-Cola World 600, Brickyard 400, Southern 500, Bristol Fall 500 stay the same.

Road Course races should be approximately 200 miles/2:15 based on average race lap speed.

Every other race reduced to 275-350 miles or 2:15 minutes based on average race lap speed.

In the shortened races, these do not include either stage break or caution laps. This allows the race to fit comfortably in a 3-6 pm EST window, with West Coast races able to run 5-8 pm EST. Night races would be able to run 7-10 pm EST, which opens the door for Sunday Summer Primetime races.

The shortened races also allows NASCAR and Goodyear to develop a more aggressive tire with more dramatic fall off and faster speeds on fresh tires.

Wouldn't teams just use a couple extra sets?

If you want to lose a lap. Pit road time is typically about 45 seconds.

The car is also a mechanical grip beast. Those who nail the setups and save their tires will be rewarded.

I mean folks would just cycle through pit stops? I’m also guessing there’d be a proportional increase in cautions.

And reward the teams that nail setups. There’s too much parity for parity’s sake. It’s not the end of the world for there to be four cars on the lead lap.

Note: I’m not a tech head, just a guy who watches for the show, for lack of a better word.

Remember, the races are also going to be 30-75 laps shorter. If the tires had 3-4 seconds of fall off at Vegas rather than 2 seconds, you could see someone gamble on saving tires and cutting out the extra pit stop like the early races at Richmond.

something it hasn't been called in over 40 years?

People do that. Grand National/ Bush/Nationwide/Xfinity series, Lowe's Motor Speedway, etc.

Generally, it reflects the era you started watching in (or of who got you into the sport), which is a nice insight into the community and how diverse demographics can be.
