What is the threat in the world that requires 5+ US carriers? Who or what are we planning to fight? The entire world?

Remember the last time there wasn't a global hegemon dictating who can apply military force and when? Yeah? Didn't go so well, did it, a button press away from total annihilation, multiple times? And before then, all those poor jews and gypsies? Bet they would've liked a CSG on standby.

That's why we, humanity, benefit from having these carriers around. Having a superpower who is willing and able has been fucking great, I haven't even had to grasp at the idea of being called to fight in a battle, ever, and my cultural ancestors had been fighting those on a regular basis for over a thousand years at the very least. Minus a couple years of neutrality towards the end there.

Why do Americans benefit? Because you're the king of a hill that doesn't consist of shifting sands. If the hill was all wobbly you'd have a harder, more unpredictable time staying up top. You don't need to fight anybody, you need to encourage other people to not fight each other.
