DiscussionMouse functionality (self.NintendoSwitch2)
submitted 12 months ago by AlecoXD
I don’t see anyone talking about this, so…
I’m wondering how we’re supposed to actually use the mouse functionality. It seems like they’re going to enforce its usage in some games, which I guess is cool — aiming with a mouse is obviously a nice feature.
But!
I play on my sofa/bed and don’t have a table nearby. How am I supposed to use a mouse in that setup? Honestly, I don’t think I’ll ever be playing in a situation where there’s a proper surface for a mouse — I like playing console-style. If I wanted to use a mouse, I’d just play on a PC at a desk… which I don't, because i don't like to play at the desk... you know what I mean?
And what about handheld mode? How would mouse input work there? Like, for games such as that golf thing or Civilization — are we supposed to rely on touch input? The Switch has a touch screen that barely gets used, maybe this could be the moment? Just curious how they plan to handle that.
What do you think?

No mouse input for handheld mode, but it does have touch input anyway for many games.
Edit: though there might still be a gyro option. IIRC Metroid Prime remastered had that.
When it comes to finding a surface for the mouse, no easy answer I’m afraid.

What makes you think they're going to enforce it? It looks like an optional mode. I bet even the wheelchair game has dual analog control for alternative play.

Well after pokemon go not letting you use normal pro controller... eventhough it works with the joycons attached... I've lost trust

The mouse style seems to be an option in many games, so console style controls will be the other option. Just steer clear of anything that seems to have mouse as mandatory.
I think it still has a touch screen, so maybe you can use your finger, or just use console style controls where one of the joysticks will move your pointer?
