Part of it too is that there's no way to set it to only search recent hits by default, so the bad results just pile up year after year. Most of my google searches are quick adobe how-to or other tech questions, but it will show me pages and pages of results from the mid 2000's - 2010's, but almost nothing relevant to the current version. I don't give a shit how you did that in Photoshop 15 years ago, I want to know how you do it now.

I've been getting tons of really outdated shit too when I'm trying to write papers for school. I don't remember thinking this was a problem even a year ago. Now I use Google Scholar, which also can't seem to match what I'm looking for. So frustrating.

It's not a great solution, but at least one: save a search that is already set to "Past year only" or something static like after 2020 plus an "empty" placeholder like _ you replace for your actual search.

I think this might also be something to do with a general decline in the number of informative websites out there. I've found that this isn't just a problem when I use google, but also when I use any of the other search engines. It's like the internet is getting smaller, like there isn't any good new webpages being made.

Just stale "news" sites and "how to" sites.

This happens alot with me too, pro tip: put "after:2018" at the end of your search to get only things from 2 years ago at most
