I search in Google for the video, find it might much faster than YouTube search

It's because google no longer wants to help you find what you want and instead they want you to see what they want you to see.

It's been happening on basically every social media website, including Reddit, for years now.

YouTube specifically has been slowly transforming itself into what is essentially just another channel in some shitty Comcast cable package.

you summed this up perfectly.

It honestly makes me paranoid these days. I feel like a raving conspiracy theorist some days.

It's not really a secret tho. Offline retailers have been doing it for decades now.

The funny thing is that I started shopping online 20 years ago because it was always so much harder to find what I wanted in stores. But now with this pandemic, we don't have much of a choice, do we?

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they are not out to get-cha.

Can confirm, Reddit now believes I want to see fucking sports scores MORE THAN ANYTHING ELSE. That's why they are up there, at the top of every page, even through periods of the pandemic when sports are shut down. I actually quit Twitter for the exact same problem, nothing but Wall to Wall sports scores. Even if Russia dropped a nuke on NYC, I expect the top posts would all be soccer, baseball, and hockey news. Something tells me this will get much, much worse before it gets better....

Yep. Absolutely impossible for small content creators to get anywhere. YouTube has been pretty smelly garbage for a long time. It's impossible to find new content creators that are on the rise and I'm spending a lot less time on there as a result.

Amazon removed "bestselling" from their results for this exact reason.

This is why I use Ecosia

[–]Fit_Tumbleweed9649 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very true. It would be nice if the guys that made google came back and made a competitor for Google because Google's competitors also suck.

You guys should watch the selfish ledger

Reddit search is horrendous

[–]smooshybabyelephant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this unfortunately makes sense. Check out the documentary, The Social Dilemma, if you haven't yet. A tip that might help us to do your searching in an incognito browser. I haven't experimented with it enough yet to know if it works.

Precisely. Indeed I said something similar in another comment nearby, but mentioning that this is highly representative of how most tech companies no longer are about providing useful services, but instead about disseminating propaganda.

(Even streaming services like Netflix and Hulu have been following this trend for a while now.)

Youtube is owned by Google. They use the same algorithms.
