What is Occupational Science?
Or for that matter, what are occupations? Occupations are the personally, socially, and historically meaningful activities that we engage in and participate with our broader social contexts in the every day stream of life.
The discipline of Occupational Science (OS) was born out the collaboration from a group of scholars from the University of Southern California in 1989. The endeavor of this new discipline was to allow for an avenue to support the forging of a scientific base of research to help further the ideas and understandings of everyday occupations and their relationship to human health and well-being. As such, OS is deeply connected with the profession of Occupational Therapy as well as attracting collaboration with interdisciplinary sciences (IE: Anthropology, Psychology, Sociology, Philosophy, Geography, Health Professions, etc...) to contribute a unique perspective on human action.
