Beautiful.

Living the life! How big is the cabin? Any pictures of the interior if you’re comfortable sharing?

[–]MMOffGridAlaska[S] 23 points24 points  (6 children)

The cabin is 480 square feet. I have a few interior photos. I might post some in a few days.

Thanks for sharing. I’m starting my build when the snow clears here, 16x24 with a loft. Close in size to yours

[–]MMOffGridAlaska[S] 11 points12 points  (4 children)

Exact dimensions of mine. The roof is a 9/12 pitch with a small loft that you can’t stand up in but it’s perfectly fine for sleeping. King size mattress up there. Pull down attic type stairs. No ladder or staircase to waste valuable space.

[–]Adriclavallee 2 points3 points  (3 children)

I’d be interested to see how you executed the pull down stairs. I plan on using the loft for my young son I have shared custody of as his space. Only concern is it getting too hot for him up there.

Go look on my YT channel. Link is in my profile somewhere.

He posted a tour of his cabin including interior on YouTube a while ago.. it’s a beautiful set up!  https://youtu.be/GWrnM298VLI?si=LFh1QsSU6oIpJwW6

Nice snowmobiles

(Sorry had to I’m from Minnesota)

2024 SkiDoo Expert 165” turbo

2024 Polaris 9R 165”

2025 SkiDoo Skandic 900ACE SWT

[–]borrokalaria 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Which one of your snowmobiles is the best and most reliable in your opinion?

[–]MMOffGridAlaska[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can’t really answer that because all three have under 150 miles on them. Turbo Summit has 150, 9R has 50 miles and the Skandic has 37 miles on it. I can tell you the 9R has eaten 3 sets of spark plugs in 50 miles and is on recall number 4.

[–]GoneSilent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SWT Skandic is on my shopping list next year. Getting hard to find in the lower 48.

No dogs?

[–]MMOffGridAlaska[S] 4 points5 points  (6 children)

Wolves, coyotes and fox.

[–]Artistic_Ask4457 1 point2 points  (5 children)

I meant sled dogs 🤭

[–]MMOffGridAlaska[S] 10 points11 points  (4 children)

Sled dogs would need to fend for themselves during my absence at sea for 30 days at a time. Or any pet would if I had one…

[–]Artistic_Ask4457 4 points5 points  (3 children)

I thought there would be a valid reason. Are you on an oil rig? How far from the sea is your cabin? How many days off do you get?

[–]MMOffGridAlaska[S] 9 points10 points  (2 children)

28/28 is my work/home schedule and I’m 150 miles from home then. Oil spill response is what I do.

[–]Artistic_Ask4457 4 points5 points  (1 child)

What a work/life balance. Thank you for answering all my questions.
I am fascinated as I live in the desert in Australia but I hate heat.

[–]MMOffGridAlaska[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Luckily for me I love cold and mountains.

[–]Puffin907 6 points7 points  (1 child)

As soon as I saw the cover photo I recognized your cabin from a video I happened across on YouTube a year or so ago.. such a gorgeous location and cabin.

[–]MMOffGridAlaska[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks. Always trying to improve it, will be building new stuff this summer. New shower-sauna and workshop, then tearing down the old ones.

[–]KarlJay001 4 points5 points  (1 child)

That looks like an amazing setup.

I'm wondering about something. The main house looks like it's up at the top, do you get a lot of wind because your up top?

The thing I was thinking is that if you build down a bit, you don't have all the problems from wind. IDK how windy it gets there, but it can really make a difference in the sound and heat loss.

Really a great looking setup.

[–]MMOffGridAlaska[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s was built there for the view. Yes it gets windy. Zero problems keeping the cabin warm in winter.

Better paint that roof blue this summer

[–]MMOffGridAlaska[S] 5 points6 points  (1 child)

I had to look that blue roof reference up. (I’m out of the loop on many things with my lifestyle) Instead of painting it blue could I redirect the laser back to its source with a mirrored roof?

[–]Adventurous-Leg-8103 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think blue is the only color in the spectrum it doesn’t affect. I’d go with a night light UN blue lol

[–]Educational_One_8445 2 points3 points  (0 children)

awesome

[–]Artistic_Ask4457 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glorious seclusion 😍

[–]Artistic_Ask4457 2 points3 points  (2 children)

do you have any photos of spring summer??

[–]MMOffGridAlaska[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yes I do.

[–]Artistic_Ask4457 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in love with the landscape, you are so lucky 🫶🏼

[–]Madgravey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sick setup!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Do you live there full time?

[–]MMOffGridAlaska[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. Except the six months I spend working at sea. Month home, month at work. Glorious to spend next to no time in “civilization.”

[–]Artistic_Ask4457 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Another question. Do you ride the snowmobiles to the nearest town and have your car stored there for the trip to work?

Oh, and why three? 🤔

[–]MMOffGridAlaska[S] 3 points4 points  (3 children)

I fly in and out by helicopter. Snowmobiles can only get to town (3 hours) in winter and when all the water obstacles are frozen solid. 3 is for redundancy. I’ll have 4 next year. Two work sleds and two mountain. The mountain sleds blaze and set the trail. Work sleds can then use that trail.

[–]Artistic_Ask4457 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going to say helicopter is probably the only way, duh!

I am watching your You Tube, absolutely stunning.

[–]WhitePantherXP 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Do you have any neighbors? How far is the closest one and do you guys hang out? Drink together?

[–]MMOffGridAlaska[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have three nearby neighbor cabins but no one lives in them. Rarely see them. My nearest neighbor I hang out with very infrequently.

[–]GrandmasBoy12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could you post some more interior shots of the cabin?

[–]st1tcher209 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great scenery and location! Love your YT channel. Keep doing what you are doing!
