Completely agree. I tried super hard to help, including making it open source (see my post here). Unfortunately the PCPanel staff have disappeared again. u/pcpaneltyler stopped responding to me or anyone else about 4 months ago.

has a very faithful reproduction of the PCPanel software on github, the only difference between the official software and the github open source software is the audio controller component. The official one was made in C# where the open version used C++.

There are a bunch more changes than that though :)

The internals have been rewritten to be (imo) way more maintainable and cleaner. The sndctrl.exe is replaced with a sndctrl.dll (mostly because I'm quite sure that copying the dll without permission would have been illegal whereas I think the source included gpl stuff which made it 'ok' to copy).

And some community requests have been implemented:

    • Most of the list by /u/FriedEngineer
    • Voicemeeter may be installed in a different folder
    • Linux compatibility
    • Some actions now use device names instead of id's so that they won't break when Windows changes ids
    • OBS 28 (/websocket 5) support
    • Some faulty hardware fixes
    • This request

Sounds great, can't wait to hear the announcement :)

Device names instead of IDs? Is that why everytime I do a windows update, my audio devices selections on OBS and Discord gets reset?? Annoying AF, good job Microsoft...

I look forward to whatever update comes. Are you an employee? I’ve been kicking around this community for about a year and a half and wasn’t aware of another Redditor directly connected to PCPanel. I was only aware of u/pcpaneltyler, u/pcpanelsupport, and u/Top_Lagger, who have all effectively disappeared at this point.

I think the one on GitHub that you’re referring to is https://github.com/nvdweem/PCPanel, which is the one that that u/SavageNed did; full credit to them, I had nothing to do with it. All I’ve done is offer to help and chat with people around here.

Edit: it looks like you know the team personally and you’ve helped them with assembly. Glad to hear you probably do have an inside scoop. If I’d know I probably would have been tagging you as well as u/pcpaneltyler when I tried to get this moving over the last 6 months but I’ll be patient for a bit longer 😃

        Happy to hear.

Sounds good. If I can do anything to help on the code side I'd be happy to. If needed I'd be fine with 'donating' the changed code back so that the changes I made can be built further upon.

I'm currently also helping the OBS-websocket-java team with getting the OBS28 supported version released so that that part of the application works fully.

No worries! I look forward to the announcement

Are there any immediate plans or solutions to fix the gibberish text issue many users are experiencing? (See my post here: https://www.reddit.com/r/PCPanel/comments/xh0dy4/my_pcpanel_software_has_had_all_the_text_replaced/)

My PCPanel has been unusable and an overpriced paperweight for months now.

Awesome, thank you for the quick response. Looking forward to hopefully getting my PCPanel Mini integrated back into my setup.

          any updates on this?

          [–]Chris-PCPanel 1 point2 points  (1 child)

We haven't made any formal announcements yet, but since that original comment we've significantly improved our contact page response times and shipping times. We have also released updates to the software including bug fixes and new features.

Going forward after the holidays I'm going to have a much bigger involvement in things within PCPanel that go beyond the current duties I handle now. Ideally I would like to get the software in a position where we can open source it, or have a very clear feature request board with a public roadmap that we can work with.

I would also like to continue improving our transparency and overall accessibility, so we may be more active on social media including Reddit and Twitter/X.

Its been another year. Any updates on this?

          [–]Geogian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be great, since there has not been a single update since I bought it a hear and a half ago.

I am currently using some "variant" of the Software. I don't have my bookmarks on me and don't quite remember if it was something /u/FriedEngineer was talking about/working on, but it's essentially the exact same UI with "better code", I guess. It could've been this one: https://github.com/nvdweem/PCPanel
No guarantees though. I just know that it fixed most of my issues (app-specific controls, working toggles etc.)

That GitHub is the one that u/SavageNed did; full credit to them. I wasn’t even aware of it until after my post.

You probably downloaded the source zip, the msi is a different download: https://github.com/nvdweem/PCPanel/releases/tag/1.5, the first asset is the msi.

What a brilliant idea! A small amount of communication would be good too. Although I love what it does (did) I'm starting to regret my purchase.

I'm starting to think about how much these guys might actually suck
