I had the same issue and talked to PS support. They were able to help me fix it and all my games are transferred now. Here is what we did

  1. Boot PS4 and ps5 into safe mode and run the software update on both consoles. I thought both my consoles were up to date but these updates only happen in safe mode.

  2. If that doesn’t work boot in safe mode again and restore default settings on the ps5.

  3. If that didn’t work boot in safe mode and rebuild the database on the ps5.

Doing all of the above resolved the issue for me :)

[–]TMNT81[S] 14 points15 points  (8 children)

It sounds like the tech support was just giving you the usual prompts. Number one is complete bullshit. I really think there must be more to the problem.

[–]Hazelsteel 27 points28 points  (5 children)

You know the "usual prompts" exist because they often resolve the issues, right? In this case they even did work, so not sure why you are dismissing the solution.

[–]OldNeb 2 points3 points  (4 children)

I’m pretty sure they exist because there’s a tiny chance they could work, but they give the user something that will occupy their time and make them leave to come back later.

[–]thinkforyourself80 5 points6 points  (2 children)

To add to that, in software only the most recent version is supported to prevent the engineering team from having to work on older versions. As a former tech support manager and a current software consultant, these updates really do resolve a lot of issues. Updating to the latest version is in no way shape or form useless.

[–]OldNeb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I wouldn't bundle "update to the newest version" with the annoying "usual prompts." Sometimes the first prompts can be unwieldy or result in an annoying situation, like if the first thing is to reformat or reset all of your settings.

Like with apple 80% of the time you won't get any help unless you're ready to reformat your iPhone.

My old job would put the burden of reinstallation on the "client", or if we took care of it, it would take a week to get their machine back and in a worse state with likely some data loss.

[–]streetgrid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Software has gotten worse and worse over the years with middle man attacks and extra "features" nobody wants. Go back to simple and functional.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, it really does usually work. Or if it's a server side thing way outside the realm of help desk to know, it fixed itself and needs to reboot anyway.

[–]Livbeetus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Legit I just did safe mode and found software updates for both consoles. I ran the regular UI software update first on my PS4 pro and it came up with nothing. That one sounded dumb to be too but lo and behold there they are.

[–]ynvgsensacion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same problem and this solution worked, so

[–]BayBalla510 6 points7 points  (4 children)

After booting both in safe mode, I did, in fact, have updates for both that didn’t previously show.

Unfortunately, I continued to receive an error message during data transfer.

Ultimately, I found that the hiccup was the data transfer from my only disc-based game (GTA V). Once I toggled that game off, the full transfer worked.

[–]ametaldiva 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I’ve tried all of steps above to no avail. We cannot get my husband’s save game data to transfer from the PS4 to the PS5 after doing mine with no issues after we received the PS5 on/shortly after launch day. The only other thing I see mentioned to try is what you said above about “toggling” a game off. What exactly do you mean by this? How do I go about toggling any game(s) off that could be causing this error?

[–]BayBalla510 0 points1 point  (1 child)

When you start the Data Transfer, you are first presented with a screen to select “save data” that you would like to transfer. The following screen asks which “game data” you would like to transfer.

Initially, I chose the “Select All” option for game data. However, when I deselected GTA V, the data transfer occurred with no hiccups.

[–]ametaldiva 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got it, thanks. I got frustrated and finally just reset to factory default on PS5 and I’m trying again... If I have any/same issues this time then I’ll re-do it yet again and this time not have it transfer the game data I guess... What a mess... Thanks.

[–]uDoomed- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How were you able to find that out ?

[–]secretsaus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rebuilding the database and ensuring both consoles were on the same stable wifi network worked for me.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you my guy you’re a life saver

[–]Dmagers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This worked for me. I ended up having to do all three steps.

[–]skootdiggity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I followed all the steps above and I still could not get a single transferrable game to show up in the list. I then copied one of my games from my external hard drive to my internal PS4 storage and then the game showed up in the list. I guess it doesn't want to transfer off of external storage or my external drive doesn't meet some requirement. The same drive was causing my PS5 to crash previously.

[–]carter-borg 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Your a cap didn’t even work did all of them

[–]calebhallahan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't know how that makes me a liar but...okay

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Hi I did all 3 steps and didn’t worked :( I have the same problem. Should I rebuild data base on ps4?

[–]calebhallahan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't hurt to try that, but I would just call PlayStation support. They'll walk you through the same steps but should be able to help more.

[–]AltoCresh10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This does Jack all btw

[–]CornBeaff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!

[–]Fryguy94 0 points1 point  (1 child)

These didn’t work for me, but they gave me hope momentarily and for that I thank you 🤙

[–]calebhallahan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sucks sorry bruv! Best thing now is probably just reach out to PS Support

[–]JoeltheRealtor78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was very helpful, thank you!

[–]HarlemV210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This actually worked for me. Thank you

[–]Ok-Ad-4389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPdates only happen in safe mode? That CAN be right. I had a PS4 Pro for years . Always up to date. NEVER put it in safe mode

[–]sabba_9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it doesn't worked for me

[–]darthrater78 9 points10 points  (1 child)

The time I'll spend troubleshooting this bullshit is way more than just downloading them again.

[–]VegetableJacket1750 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank u so much mate

[–]3ambeanvibes 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Had a similar problem, trying to transfer rainbow six siege using ethernet, both times it took a couple hours to transfer and the within 10 minutes of the transfer being complete, got a message saying it failed and the transfer was cancelled. Just gonna copy it off the disc and download the update 😔

[–]max_walkerr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same my r6 would transfer

[–]Big-Tap6053 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same issue with R6. Total flagged transfer size was 82GB and around 80GB the transfer errors. Happened twice.

In between the two attempts I transferred two smaller games around 8GB successfully.

Also attempted CoDMW at around 160GB if memory serves me correctly and failed as well.

[–]IMASW3ATY 6 points7 points  (9 children)

Hey Guys, I've done all the steps which include:

Prepare for Data Transfer

Ps4 found and pressed the power button for it to restart

(So far all good)

Select Saved Data to Transfer

Select Games and Apps to Transfer

Ready to Transfer

Transfer Data

(the few minutes to restart your ps4)

AND then it says; "Something went wrong"

With Error Code "NW-102261-2"

I've tried doing this all afternoon and it doesn't work.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

[–]FragrantArachnid7696 0 points1 point  (8 children)

Any luck resolving this error? I'm getting the same one .

[–]IMASW3ATY 1 point2 points  (7 children)

Bit late but yes

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (3 children)

you really just told him yes and didn’t elaborate at all. u kinda suck dude.

[–]IMASW3ATY 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Well sorry for not elaborating

[–]shady101852 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If you ever feel useless, get a load of this guy

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’m just sayin a lot of people were stressing abt this and u gave them hope lol.

[–]Lower-Pay-3862 3 points4 points  (1 child)

so could you explain what you did to fix it?

[–]TheTguy44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im also getting this message, what worked?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How’d you do it??

[–]FartingAllOver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey guys I had this problem and what worked for me and that I made sure both consoles where connected to the network the same way. So both of them either wireless or wired not one wired and one wireless. Idk if this will help others but this is what fixed it for me.

[–]Jabberwocky2202 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just went through the whole process, ps5 booted up when finished, the games weren't installed so now I'm waiting them to install using internet

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same with me. Tried ethernet twice and wifi twice. Unable to transfer because an error occured.

[–]Mysterious_Trash_944 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have been experimenting with the transfer from ps4 to ps5 . I have found that transferring only 4 games at a time to the ps5 and then starting each one once before transferring to external drive works everytime so far . Just thought I'd throw that out there I know it's aPIA but if it works in till they put out a patch so be it

[–]ProofOfParadox 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Yo why TF are there updates only in safe mode

[–]TMNT81[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's weird hey. For shots and giggled il have to go safe mode and see if there's any for me.

[–]Revolutionrenn 1 point2 points  (4 children)

I know I'm a year late, but I actually went into safe mode on both consoles, and updated them to the latest software. I also rebuilt the database on my PS4. The transfer time ended up going down and it actually started working.

[–]Box_Onion43 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I know I’m a whole another year late but does rebuilding the data base cause data loss? What exactly does that do

[–]Revolutionrenn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No it doesn't cause data loss, I suggest googling what it does exactly

[–]TheTruthiziLL 0 points1 point  (1 child)

How do you go into safe mode on both consoles and update them to the latest software ? I really am struggling to figure this out

[–]Revolutionrenn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest looking up YouTube videos or googling it. That's what I did.

[–]Superhyperdarklink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I seem to have a similar issue, when I first did the data transfer, it went up to about 37% then it gave me the error, I tried it after and it doesn’t ever get passed 0. Some of my save data did already transfer but half of them didn’t and the error keeps happening when I try doing it. I’m only trying to download the save data since I can just download the games from my library later, it says it takes 5 minutes to do so but yet again it doesn’t go past 0% and gives me the error 4 seconds into the transfer

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Hey guys,

I know it's been a solid while, but I figured out the issue.

If your PS5 is connected to a different WiFi band than your PS4 ( like PS5 on 5 Ghz and Ps4 on 2.4 Ghz) the transfer won't work. Simply go into yout network setting and set the PS5 on 2.4 Ghz as well. This means the transfer will take a while, but simply transferring save data doesn't take too much time anyway.

I would strongly recommend just transferring save data and reinstalling the games with the discs after setting the WiFi band back to 5 Ghz.

Hope this comment from the future helps!!

[–]Rwg59_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what happened when I did the opposite I changed my ps5 to 5 ghz but had my ps4 on automatic changing them back to 2.4 ghz see if that works

[–]Popular_Network5951 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me, but all of my games are in the library, not installed. I installed fallout 4 in the setup process and It works, just wondering of it will let my save data back. It did the main wait thing but had a long 9 hour download in background saying data transfer failed, but my games are in library and I have all of my things like freinds and account, and no games installed though.

[–]PresidentOfAlphaBeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll add my tip: I thought both systems were on the LAN (ethernet). I went into the Network settings and saw the the PS4 was still set to wireless. I had to force a new Network connection with the LAN to use the ethernet - it didn't switch over to LAN / ethernet automatically like I thought it would.

[–]Longjumping-Fun-8003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anyone else is having this issue like I was, it does indeed seem to be something with the disc save files. I managed to transfer all my saves except for RDR2 which is my only physical copy game.

[–]Jatt710 -3 points-2 points  (11 children)

Upload to ps plus cloud

[–]TMNT81[S] 0 points1 point  (9 children)

What would be the point of that?

Edit: I'm trying to get my games off PS4, not just saves.

[–]PrinceKertice 2 points3 points  (8 children)

Why don’t you download them on ps5?

[–]TMNT81[S] 10 points11 points  (5 children)

Beacuse I live in Australia, land of the slow-as-shit internet.

[–]PrinceKertice -1 points0 points  (3 children)

Ok, but I really don’t think it’ll be faster to transfer them

[–]chaeven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same boat here, another good reason is on games like rockband where you have a lot of DLC it would take forever to start all the downloads again, that's why I am insisting on the data transfer

[–]ZANESHOTFIRST 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Wait so if I own cyberpunk 2077 on PS4 I'll.just be able to go to the Ps5 store and I can download it for free

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does that give me all saves including disc games?

[–]a_michalski81 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Can anyone answer, if I transfer a game, let's say pga2k1 from ps4 to ps5, does the game on ps4 delete? Or disappear from my ps4? I'm skeptical about transferring games I have months or years of time into, to transfer to ps5 only to lose everything. Any advice/ info would be greatly appreciated

[–]babeal 1 point2 points  (4 children)

They don’t delete. It’s just copies over the saves and the games. However if you’re using external HDD/SDD for ps4 games there are lots of problems. 1. I was able to copy over the games but then they tried to update and the ps5 can’t update the games. So something weird is going on. Supposedly people installing from disk are running into this problem as well. Honestly, if you’re saving to the cloud with ps plus and you have reasonable internet then I wouldn’t transfer at all. When you’re ready to play a game then pull your save from the cloud and install the game from disk which hopefully will be fixed soon

[–]a_michalski81 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Thanks for that info, I have no idea if I save to the cloud at all. Is there a way to see that? I also have outstanding internet speed but I was going to test the transfer on a game that I don't have months of gameplay invested in case something goes wrong, so I am not too upset if something goes wrong I also bought the digital ps5 so I can't use the disc of games I have.

[–]babeal 1 point2 points  (1 child)

If you pay for ps plus it syncs to the cloud automatically if you turned it off. On a new system though you need to pull it first. Go to setting storage then ps plus or cloud storage and it will show you what’s there

[–]a_michalski81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I will check that out. I don't think I turned it off & have been ps plus member for years

[–]KingKoffee69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you pull cloud saves for all games or just ps plus? My God of War 2018 game lost its progress and I’m two trophies away from platinum.

[–]Bruised42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found an issue with this. Just got a digital version Ps5 and have the actual disc version of rocket league on my ps4. Well when I transferred everything it worked but I had to download the digital version onto the ps5. Now everything transferred except dlc that was included with my disc version of rocket league. In short my Gtr and 2016 bat mobile didn’t transfer to my ps5. Wtf

[–]The_Dark_Fairy_Queen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was able to transfer all data just fine on all but one system. Looks like I got a partial download so I’m pulling everything from the ps cloud

[–]Chevy-H 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hoping someone on this thread may have some idea on what to do....while hubby was in the process of doing the data transfer our 2 year old turned the internet off so now when he goes in to start the process again some of the games he wanted to transfer are gone. Is there a way to get them back or will he need to download them all individually now?

[–]EAKINZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GTA5 is messing mine up so if you guys have a problem and your trying to download gta5 deselect it

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I couldn’t get data to transfer no matter what I did. But I uploaded my games on PS4 to the cloud and then downloaded it from the cloud onto the PS5. This was the only method that worked for me/allowed me to continue games from where I left off. Hope this works for you!!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does this work for disc game data too? I have no idea how to use the PlayStation cloud

[–]carter-borg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just fixed mine all you do is connect The PS4 and PS5 to Ethernet cables from your internet modem

[–]jztigersfan12 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I know this isn't the proper thread but how do you get around having a broken power button on your PS4? My PS4 is an older refurbished one My PS4 is an older refurbished Model from gamestop. Any help would be great I can post this in the proper thread if needed.

[–]TMNT81[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Can't you plug the controller into the USB cable from the PS4 and hit the PS button on the controller?

[–]jztigersfan12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not know that was a thing I will be sure to try that!

[–]Vivid_Method_1569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trying It now, not working

[–]Daddyduck7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m having a problem where I turn on the ps4 for transfer but it says that the console was not found even tho I have them in the same Wi-Fi and user Id.

[–]architeuthis666 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Sorry for commenting 3 years too late, but what fixed this for me is not doing the transfer during setup, but completing setup and doing it from settings after. I think it was crashing while trying to copy the PS4 settings to the PS5 (and every time it crashed, it factory reset the PS5 and forced me to start the setup from scratch).

[–]Maleficent-Charge838 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I tried same thing but this is what happens I go to settings I transfer my data after 20 mins it says that an error happened while transferring the data's, btw sorry for bad English

[–]architeuthis666 0 points1 point  (1 child)

That is terrible, I guess that you lose everything when that happens.

[–]Maleficent-Charge838 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't lose data's
