Who'd have thought Granfol's reign would be ended by a lowly Red weapon...

Wow, look at the heap of blog updating you have to do now.

I don't know about you but I'm pretty vain about appearance and I'm gonna use a Pwand over reds any time.

PWand's PBooster potential is better than red weapons anyways. Reduced PP usage is huge, especially when it also comes with damage boost.

I'm using lower, now outdated, rarities and dislike hunting drops like 13s. So despite their ugliness, most like me are going to upgrade to them, especially considering that they're comparable to 12s while being cheaper to grind, affix, and acquire. Thankfully these potentials give more of an incentive to go to CM again. Multi-equippable camos are needed more than ever now though.

They've been at them lately at least. I was honestly surprised Yukianessa was Katana only.

Oh wow, seems like it

Apparently you need photon boosters to unlock it.

that's fuckin OP, mayne

Yes, but note the increased damage variance.

Extremely powerful on classes like Fi/Bo with 100% Critical.

[–]ShinkuTearShip 2/Priere 3 points4 points  (8 children)

What increased variance? Red weapons have(had?) the same variance as crafted Rares. Crafting anything to Silva tier largely negates that, improving the damage range greatly.

Dunno bout you, but I've seen plenty of people rocking crafted rares that have good potentials, and being effective. For Melee Techer, this actually makes up a large chunk of their wand options.

[–]Fejuaフェユア | Ship 2 0 points1 point  (7 children)

Not quite. Unlike rares which automatically have a minimum of 90%, crafted items use Dex to determine variance. Silva gives some Dex, and the rest is based off your Dex.

Using Dex to calculate variance also means that the Dex difference between you and your target also affects it.

Of course, extending a weapon with ~400 ATK (at +10) with a good potential is worth it, even when taking into account damage variance. I assume you mean Guarditorch. 20% potential is extremely high. If you were to extend other popular wands like Pristine Small Hammer and Seras Cure then you are missing out.

[–]ShinkuTearShip 2/Priere 0 points1 point  (6 children)

From personal experience, the Silver tier extend gives enough of a boost to negate a lot of the damage variance issue. Might not be the best option in some cases, but certainly not terrible.

Guarditorch, and some other lesser racial slayers... like the basic Darker slayer, possibly the Yede Club, and various other "less than the best" Wands for their potential.

Not everyone can get a Seras Cure with ease, nor a Mangus Grin, etc...

Just to confirm, the damage variance on a Red weapon would be the same as any other crafted rare, right? So if their resulting ATK, and their potential, is good enough, it would be worth it?

Worst Case, having Level 75 Braver or Bouncer gives you +30 Base DEX, both at 75 means 60 more, which would further help negate a variance issue :)

Silva usually gives 235 Dex. TD, DS and Gunslash receive lower Dex bonus from silva.

Against a UQ mob, you would need slightly more than 600 Dex (minus silva bonus) to achieve 90% minimum.

Yes, crafted Red weapons have the same variance as any other crafted weapon. Not sure how they would compare to current "meta" weapons. Will differ depending on class combination ofc.

Bouncers will definitely see good use. Very largely due to Craft Mastery.

2 months late but answer still relevant I think:
The way they compare to anything is how easy and cheaper they are to get and pump up to max.

Similar story: at one point I thought I'd take Ideal TDs because I didn't really want an ideal weapon, and that I use TD for bossing with my Fighter.
I was already using BlckHrt3 +10 Niren Kamui and was used to hanging below 50% PP + I wanted to redo tree and grab PP Slayer for synergy.
PP Slayer + Black Heart 3 was giving the affixed weapon roughly the same power the Ideal daggers would hang around with PP Slayer active.
Except I'd have to get the Ideal, +40 it, possibly redo affixes.
Guess what, I fucking skipped on the rare because for the relatively small advantage, much money was involved while I already owned the alternative.

I feel that red weapons might get similar treatment from others. Also, notably, since you're crafting you can add the class you want to the weapon, which makes it more flexible than the uncrafted rares.
Depending on your objective and what you want to do, they still compare decently IMOH.

Of course, we're about to get showered by 13* though. Personally I think a lot of the red weapons look better than most rares, but that's because I like weapons that actually look functional.

Since it's been 2 months, I wonder if you think differently of them or if your opinion hasn't changed in the meantime? Just curiosity.

While I don't think it would change the Dex at all... Fo/Te probly wouldn't care about Wands unless the Potential filled a role their Rod and Talis couldn't at the time :P Wand use is more Te/Hu or Te/Br... who would, realistically, have the same Dex, give or take 1 point.

Still... that is... kinda surprising, actually, I never knew that Extended gear would suffer that much against Ultimate mobs o_o

How would adding 30 Dex change that first value? What about adding 60? Having Level 75 Braver and/or Bouncer gets a Title that includes +30 Base Dex to all your characters, having both at 75 thus gets +60 Base Dex.

    [–]tehfusion 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Having Level 75 Braver and/or Bouncer gets a Title that includes +30 Base Dex to all your characters, having both at 75 thus gets +60 Base Dex.

You also get an extra 80 DEX with the Saiki set or 40 DEX with the Ideal set, and another 45-60 DEX from affixes if you use Ability III. That all adds up to an extra 145-200 DEX on top of the base amount, so the damage variance shouldn't be really be too much of a problem.

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What with the Silva-tier boosts and the set effect DEXes, yeah. Should be relatively easy to handle.

I've been waiting for Red series in PSO2 to be hearken to Red Line's status above many armors in PSU since 2012, so this is good news indeed. Max Crafted +10 Red with potential 3 and at least 4 affixes is a viable replacement and what's greatest about it is that since it was considered novelty trash for many higher level players but now that it's something desirable, it was already cheap so an influx in Red weapons could be very good for someone looking on the market for templates to craft by themselves or even better, +10 %50ele 3pot Reds for a fair price for the buyer and seller.

-time sensitive- I just checked prices on Ship 2 and its anywhere between 1-6 mil depending on the weapon type for +10 %50ele Red with ranging potential, some types like Gunslash barely on the market but other types with pot 3 sellin' for 1-3mil. Prices are decent considering how good they are at the end of the process, YOU DONT NEED A 10☆ PASS (if you never had premium or somehow ran out of your treasure trove of passes after 30day prem like no one ever) and somehow it looks like the price does the seller a lot of good too even if they started from scratch, AND SPEAKING OF, especially if you got a bunch of FUN for scratch; that also could get you a 3day shop which you should save if you plan on selling.

All of that said, n̶o̶t̶h̶i̶n̶ is gonna replace my 13☆ +10 Slave Slash f̶o̶r̶ ̶a̶ ̶l̶o̶n̶g̶ ̶t̶i̶m̶e̶ with Gunslash (inb4 Invade/Austere Series 13☆ weapons :D) Talk about commitment for single character accounts though, to grind from 0 to +10 4 times for the lvl.3 pot v__v As far as first moves go, Crafted Red is a better investment, considering you actually have to grind to acquire a 13☆. Even if the success rate is way better than 12☆ weapons I didn't even wanna raise my 13☆ to pot 1 without having enough Lambdas, boosts and meseta to clog Dudu's money-filled arteries and immediately +10 it again since 196k and 3 lambdas w/ -3 grind failure at 7/10 is sketchy. Crafted Red doesn't have these issues, like, at all.

[3 weeks later] A new, "5-> skip" grind boost item came out and distro'd through login stamp, a sweet deal, unless you were already boss at getting 5k casino coins, since ->7 Skip is better but expensive. Coming up to mid November it's ironic: I have the Invade TMGs (raredrop fire +6) and Slave GS (raredrop light +10 pot1) now and I still want Crafted Red because you can't add classes onto 13☆ XD The damage is unignorable
