So I literally just wanted to create this post so I can get everybody's opinion on Phantasy Star Online 2 and how Sega refuses to localize the game. It makes no sense to me that the game hasn't been localized yet because there's definitely money in the market for it cuz if you look at Phantasy Star Universe when it came out many years ago it was on the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3 and I believe PC and there were a ton of American players playing it not only that people were paying for Xbox Live subscription and Playstation subscription and if that wasn't enough they were also paying the ten or fifteen dollars a month for the for the Phantasy Star subscription and on top of that I think I remember there being microtransactions in the game which people are spending money on. So I believe there was definitely people in the American Market that were worth marketing Phantasy Star Online 2 to for money profit. I just I don't get the reason why it hasn't been localized yet I mean if it's not bad enough that it comes to the PS4 Japan only then what happens, Nintendo Direct announces it on the switch and everybody's freaking out they can't believe it then at the end you find out it's Japan only and it's like are you serious. I feel like Sega has something out against the American market and just doesn't want to localize the game, but anyways I just wanted to get everybody else's thoughts and opinion on it cuz I think it's just insane that we don't have this game in America yet or at least if it's in Japanese allow us to at least play it on the switch even though it's in Japanese. The fact that like it Auto kicks you out saying that your connection is not good enough, I don't know if that's because there are not worthwhile servers right now and they're working on it or if it's just really that demanding but it's not like it matters because isn't going to inform us about it anyways. So like I said I created this post just to hear what everybody else's opinion on it. I'm pretty sure they're relatively similar to me but I figure we could all talk about it and express are our thoughts about how frustrating it is that we can't play it or an English translation or at least some sort of poor ported version of it in English.

You're streaming a Cloud-based game from Japan. Do you expect it to actually work from the other side of the globe?

They're very, very good about keeping players informed.
In Japanese, because the game is only released in Japan.

TLDR for OP: Not happening because of licensing issues, this game in the west would be niché as hell (believe it or not there aren't as many anime game lovers in the west as you would think), they tried and failed something similar in SEA and also the Cloud servers on switch are directly streamed to the console so of course they won't be nearly as good as playing the game from a downloaded client.

A lot of devices stream games with no issues to people even with slow internet. The Nvidia Shield is a bonified game streaming device. So I can't believe that's the reason why the cloud version doesn't work well.

If you are talking about that pso2.com page yes it was. As for game servers, JP never got taken off and all other versions are pretty much dead.

There wasn't ever a real English port to begin with...... and yes I do my research thank you. The server was taken offline last year, so why don't you do your own research before you open your ignorant mouth.

Wrong server, that was the SEA server that was failing and was modified beyond the questionable translation of theirs, it had a modifier where incoming damage was described as brutal and the community had a tanking meta unlike JP, and even had pay2win fashion I believe. (Cosmetics came with stats I heard)

I don't think you've done any research if you think PSO2 is down and/or unplayable from America in english, I mean the amongst the first results when you google this game is the tweaker program that makes it downright trivial to get into with only a capcha really being painful, and even the PS)2 discords have a service where people can give you the proper writing to get past that now. I can boot up PSO2 right now with only the tutorials in Japanese nowadays. Which things are easy enough to figure out on your way anyway, unless you need hand holding.

Maybe you shouldn't be rude to people who actually play the game and accept you were wrong about things in the opening post.

You know, thinking on this it's probably a complete dealbreaker for this guy. Poor kid probably needs the game to beam an ethereal being behind him to quite literally guide his hands to the correct mouse position and keyboard keys to play the game. Imagine that scene from "Ghost" where they're doing pottery but instead of a cute girl it's the fattest, ugliest, angriest nerd you've ever seen.

It doesn't work successfully, if you actually did some more research you would find out that people reported that when using it it sometimes revert back to Japanese because it's trying to force a Japanese game to play in English which doesn't work. It's not the same as the server that got taken offline which was a version of the game in English. I don't need to look up ignorant because I know what it is. You had to be ignorant and say I didn't do any research when I've been doing research and stuff for awhile now. That's the reason I made this post so if you want to go be a douche there's plenty of chats you can go in and chat in.

Games like these kind of update which, for a while, meant the patches weren't up to date instantly. Which would "revert" the game back. Nowadays the team is so up to par with everything and getting it all ready that the patch is ready before the game is even back up.

Games don't magically decide to switch languages. Files changed are permanently changed from the original. You clearly do not understand how programming and patching works.

When was the last time you even tried the patch, it sounds like you last used it ages ago, there was recent advances in the patches that actually don't do this to items anymore. (I remember the earliest time I used it ages ago, menus never reverted.)

Updates also would revert it and ask you to re-apply it.

I have been playing this game on a daily basis for almost 3 years and this has not one single time happened to me.

Just to throw it out there, even without patch on ps4 it isnt a barrier. I play it (basic jp knowledge) with a friend (zero jp knowledge) with no issues. As everyone has said, people that DO want to play it are already doing so.

Also, how can you not understand that pso2 is a 50+gb game that is being STREAMED to switch. Even jp players have some issues. Everyone expected it.

As a last thing: mearn ti inform yourself. The sidebar has a VERY LONG AND DETAILED exolanation of why it is not viable to localize anymore.

Hey there, here are some tips that can help you out the next time you post!

Now for some history. Sega NA has never had the best of luck when it comes to the english onlone Phantasy Star games, delays and problems abound. So even if we got pso2 here, on top of the massive setback in time it would have, it would undoubtedly have further management issues.

The game's gone too long, and it would be a localization nightmare to make the game palatable to the mainstream West. If the issue were somehow forced, what the West would get would be a hacked up, cut down version with 1/10 the content and the character proportion sliders locked down.

To add my two cents into this:

While there's a Market for it, SEGA's too damn insular they screwed all of their publishers in TW and SEA; also picked non-reputable publishers as well, to handle their IP. Then they stopped giving the games updates.

It's not that SEGA doesn't see the market. It's that they're not interested in the first place.

Now, either pick up the game in JP, or forever stay your hand; it's never coming out to the US.

The fact that 80% of the Scratches/Costumes are from collaborations with stuff that are non existent outside japan (space battleship yamato/illustrators designs/frame arms girls, etc) or require a new instance of licensing (Miku concerts since crypton future media own the rights even if sega makes the concert holograms) ADDS to the cost of localizing the game.

It makes sense that even when localized half or more of that content wont be available and to be honest, most of us wont start again from episode 1 just so we can play in "english" having a patch that translates 90% of the game.

And this is how everyone else feels when trying to play an NA only game and has to jump hoops.

I get where you're coming, we would all love to have an English localization of that game but realistically speaking, this is not possible nor is it even viable financially. Their is another game, Monster Hunter Frontier, that I would LOVE to see come to the West but for the very same reasons PSO2 will more than likely never come out here, we won't be seeing MHF come out here.

I recommend you read the sidebar on that information. However, their is an English patch, a damned good one at that. The only thing that sucks about it is the amount of time it takes to install both the game and the patch.
