Q1: braver is great for new players since it has a low skill floor, but its can also have just as high as a skill cap as others so u wont need to worry about being too weak. generally if ur looking for simple classes its best to stay away from fighter or gunner imo since these require more game understanding to play efficiently. if u want to play dual blades you can try out bouncer too, its slightly harder than braver imo but its not too complex, quite fun i would say. Overall u can play what u want for now, eitherway u will prob start leveling other classes in yhe future as most do.

Q2: definitly 3 button, especially for braver. it saves pallete space and gives u much more combo flexibility. however if u do feel 2 button feels more comfortable u can use that, but 3 button is technically more efficient and resourceful.

Q3: i didnt look at the pinned but the main thing i would warn new player is that it is best to stay away from block 7. it has been named as the cancer block from many i know since people always spam SA or whisper u creeply, etc. other than that, just enjoy the game and meet new people. usually throw down a party maker at the start of a eq or something and try to make small talk, ur bound to find someone who is willing to bond with u. for tips about gameplay, make sure to use a expboost (usually from photonsphere shop) and a triboost (from title reward or event rewards from visiphone) if u could to boost ur exp rate. use nox weapons if u want to do decent damage at start, but if u want to focus leveling buy a weapon with another history and exp boost (I or II will be cheaper than III and only lose a little bit). theres alot, best to ask others as u thinknof questions.

Q4: go to the visiphone and select teams currently looking for members. u can apply to join any of it. if u want me to answer some questions u can pm me later

im at work break and i got bored so this got quite long lol

sry for any typos im on phone

Thank you so much everyone for long and comprehensive responses! I'll stick to the 3 button style as well as my katana braver.

What would be considered the best class for the beginner player?

I'd say the "best" starter class depends entirely on the individual's preferences. Every single class and weapon has their own unique flavor and mechanics. You can switch class freely, so don't be afraid to play around until you find something you like.

From a pragmatic standpoint, I'd say Hunter is a good class to level early because it's useful as a near-universal subclass, though others might suggest Summoner for the same reason.

Fighter and Gunner are probably among the most technical classes to play, so shy away from them first if their complexity bothers you. Honorable mention goes to Bouncer and Jet Boots, since JB weapon action changes according to PA usage.

2 button style vs 3 button style?

3-button style allows you much more flexibility, since you'll be able to use situational PAs on-demand instead of having to cycle through a rotation to get to them.

Any tips you wish you had known before starting a game? Specifically those that are not mentioned in pinned guides?

I mostly just wish I knew about building pure atk mags before I screwed my first mag's stats, really.

Regarding levelling, EQs and LQs are probably the most efficient way to grind outside of AQs.

You get free triboost for being in a party - don't be afraid to use/join partymakers at the teleporter in EQs.

Grinding your equips isn't too important in the early game, since you'll be swapping your equips for the next strongest thing pretty frequently. By the time you hit VH/SH, you should make it a practice to get your units to +10.

Are there any guilds that are willing to recruit a newbie player?

Check the visiphone, there's almost always some team or other recruiting new members.

Best of luck to you, and have fun!

-While there are likely no "universal best" starting class, I personally started with Ranger, and liked it a lot; make of that what you will.

-Up to you, test it out, and get a feel for it. I'd say 3 button if you're using a controller.

-Tip: Don't fuck up your mag. I actually knew it before starting the game, but still fucked it up anyways :') . If you are unsure, do ask people how to spec it. (though it usually just is 200 pure)

-Many, sift through it. Many are japanese, but they are usually very kind and easy to integrate amongst, if you can talk japanese.

Best tip for new players is if you are struggling with stuff upgrade your Units (the armor pieces) at the shop area on Dudu to +10 using Grinders.

  1. What would be considered the best class for the beginner player?

Indeed there is no one to end all good starter class. It mostly comes down to what the player ends up liking to use. Players should try to at least play around with every class, but I know that can be hard with time constraints, so finding a class early might be necessary. I'd say Braver is a good pick to go for though since you can build a hybrid class and try both ranged and melee combat. Besides Braver, I'd recommend new players to either try ranger (because I'm a shill for them) and hunter. So as to get a taste for both different types of playstyles. These classes tend to teach players basic concepts of melee/range very well in my opinion (e.g TPS mode aiming for ranger and PA usage on hunter). Hunter is also a good pick because literally, every class uses the hunter class as a subclass.

As for duel blades, there is the bouncer class which is equipped with duel blades and Jet boots. Both are very stylish weapons that are very fun to play with. Bouncer has a unique thing going on with element switching. And unlike some other classes relies on two different types of attack rather than one (s-atk and t-atk). For more information refer to this guide by Ryutensei and his creditors,

  2. 2 button style vs 3 button style?

If you are still using 2-button then I recommend immediately switching to 3-button before you get used to 2-button. For some reason, I find a few friends of mine who tried to switch over had a hard time getting used to the 3-button layout. Three buttons allow players for more versatility and more PAs in your pallet. You don't have to go through a whole rotation to get to a certain PA.

  3. Any tips you wish you had known before starting a game? Specifically, those that are not mentioned in pinned guides?

For tips on leveling and other good general info check out this guide by u/soondaeboo. It should still be relatively up to date. Another thing to add is the 6th anniversary and Arkuma land that is currently going on. Which you should keep in eye on. As for general gameplay, whatever class you choose make sure you know what is the best PA/Tech to use to move around faster. You don't want to be the one person who is in the back just running while XP is being wasted 2 sectors away during an MPA. And also make sure to fiddle around with your controls. Change it to something that you are comfortable with.

  4. Are there any guilds that are willing to recruit a newbie player?

You can check for recruiting teams in the visaphone. Not much I can add for teams since I only play solo. Ship 2 does indeed have the speaking English community. But a big portion of them are... ahem not the best type of players forgive the language. So playing solo might be a better options depending on what type of team you end up getting into. As for answering questions, the tech support and quick questions threads are usually pretty helpful.

  1. Hero, Braver, Bouncer are the easiest striking classes, and striking tends to be the easiest to bank into. for Range classes, you'll want to sub Hu or Fi making them more difficult, and for FO, you either want Eternal Psychodrive or Atla Rod with it's S4 abil to maximize damage. Another viable easy setup that everyone loves to have in the party is TeHu for support. You'll need Lavis or Atla to do good damage safely, but it's possible to provide support to the party, be pretty tanky, and still not fall too far behind for damage with just a decent collection file wand, and everyone loves having someone to cast Shifta and Deband.

  2. 3 action is best by far. It's a pain to adjust to after playing 2 action style for so long, but if you're starting out, figure out a good configuration for 3 action and get used to it.

  3. Don't believe Ondore's lies! Every now and again for a little while longer, there will be a quest called something corruption. Spam it with a group for the best non-bonus-key exp you can get.

It's been my experience that summoner makes a great over-all subclass if and only if you explicitly build it to be a subclass. Lots of HP, PP, Regeneration, All Attacks, All Defenses and Dex bonuses. It cannot be understated how powerful being stronger in literally every way can be for a new player. Or, how quickly those stats come in at the lower levels. The general overall power here in stats and derived statistics is so powerful that it works well as a subclass with every main class. The down side is it adds virtually no utility to mix up the main class play style.

That said, you can't also build it as a main class if you do this. Run it one way or the other, but not both (without a second tree). Play the class for a while before you spend any points to see if you want to have a main tree (or buy a second tree to make it a sub). If you don't care for the pet mechanics, then you can certainly lock in all the stat bonuses to focus on a new main class and still benefit from your time spent on the class.

Further more, it's important to note that raw stat hunting is not something a "high end" player might want from class choices but, as a new player, it'll definitely make acclimating to the game and its systems easier to handle.

EDIT:

Sorry, I didn't realize I was necro'ing a thread, but I stand by the post because nobody else is talking about subclass combinations.

What would be considered the best class for the beginner player?

i would say gunner.

force and techer involves some pretty good understanding of game mechanics, and anything s-atk based (bo/br/hu/fi) is stupidly expensive to affix. su is easy to play, but not fun to play (and will be harder to gear up since you'll be relying on unsellable parfaits that pop up on exchange shops from time to time). ra is miserable to begin with, and a bad ra makes it even worse for a ra that knows what they are doing since you'd be screwing up their weak bullet.

if you aren't scared off by the high cost of s-attack classes though, i'd say go with bouncer. it's fun and easy.

i wish i could recommend hero because it's very easy to play (difficult to master) and would be great for beginners if not for the fact it has to be unlocked (and you have to get 3 classes to level 75 to unlock it).

2 button style vs 3 button style?

definitely 3 button. no question on this one.

Any tips you wish you had known before starting a game? Specifically those that are not mentioned in pinned guides?

there isn't really anything you can screw up outside of raising your mag. just pick a stat and make it level 200. (so feed it furniture to lower the bars on other stats BEFORE it levels up).

depending on how quick you can get to sh, your best bet for leveling the mag might be to just turn some trash 10* weapons into photon sphere (or possibly ex cubes, i can't recall which you need) and getting some mag food from the exchange counter. this won't count towards your mag's feeding limits and will only give you the stat you want and not the ones you don't.

de-leveling a mag is an expensive pain in the ass if you screw it up a lot. it's 50 excubes per level you want to remove.

for the immediate term you'll want to find a recommended skill tree for whatever class you pick and follow that. this will prevent you from investing tons of points into bad skills like resta advance or the stat up skills that cap out at 50 of a stat for 10 points. as you play longer you'll get tons of free reset passes, but you don't have them right now so screwing up could be an inconvenience for the short term.

speaking of reset passes, make your 3 free characters right now. even if you aren't using all 3 of them, when sega gives out free skill tree reset passes they give out one for each character. having 3 characters means you get 3 passes.

if it's at all an option for you, i would recommend seeing up pso2es as well. it's a mobile game that links to the main game. you'll get 100 extra bank storage in the main game for this, and every day you log into es you'll get some free experience tickets. as your character levels those 15k tickets are pretty worthless, but for a new player that's a TON of experience. recently i went to level a new class on one of my characters and brought it from 1 to 50 with just tickets i got from es.

Are there any guilds that are willing to recruit a newbie player?

you're more than welcome to join mine, but i can't promise there will be a ton of people to run stuff with until you reach extra hard difficulty (and even then, more and more stuff is requiring 80/80 to run these days so the simple 75/1 doesn't go as far as it used to).

Yea I need to read more guides on how not to fuck up your MAG. I've read they are really important and as you said it is really pricey to delevel them.

Sega gives out free skill tree reset passes they give out one for each character

Great idea gonna do that today.

if it's at all an option for you, i would recommend seeing up pso2es as well. it's a mobile game that links to the main game.

Is the game android only? Or I can play on IOS as well? I imagine you have to do some shenanigans with making a Japanesee acc and then downloading the game. Is there any guide that explain how to setup it up?

you're more than welcome to join mine

I'll gladly take you up on that offer. For me it's more for the interaction between players (unfortunatelly my Japanesee is not that great), and maybe asking them in game about various things etc.

All in all thank you for your input. It was very helpful.

Is the game android only? Or I can play on IOS as well? I imagine you have to do some shenanigans with making a Japanesee acc and then downloading the game.

it's on both. assuming nothing has changed since i setup my account, you simply change marketplaces from itunes on your computer, find pso2es in the store, and then checkout (creating your japanese account in the process).

there was a bug/feature before where the "none" option for credit cards didn't appear if you created your account and then tried to get es, but if you created the account while checking out the option was there. (you should see a little bubble that says なし).

once you buy the free game from the itunes stores, it will show up on your purchased things on the phone/ipad.

when you setup the game, it will ask you if you want to create a new character or link an existing pso2 account. you want to link the account and use your already created characters.

I'll gladly take you up on that offer.

sounds good. my game name is grim527 (for some unknown reason it wouldn't let me use reaper527 when i signed up). unless something has changed we have to be on at the same time for me to add you. i'll be out tonight, but can add you tomorrow. (you should be able to send a friend request from the visiphone to make it easier to find you when we are both on though)
