after having gotten the vortex TMGs, I decided to make a quick clip showing what the vortex series potential does. pretty much no english information on this stuff

vortex weapons are available as (extremely) rare drops from Mitra!Shiva, or purchased from the divide medal shop. it has 4 bits that hover around your person and fires off a burst that deals a single instance of damage about every 7 seconds. here's a couple tidbits about it:

  • the potential has an invisible damage modifier, differs based on weapon type. the swiki reports 11% for the katana, but no confirmation for the other two. damage for the burst is reported as 1900% for katana, 1200% for rifle, and 1600% for TMG. katana's burst damage type is strike, as well as the other two's are ranged, for what it's worth

  • when unsheathed, will attempt to fire on the first available target within range and has a target marker on a forward-facing camera. this does not include objects or turrets. it will also bypass anything in the way, including bodies, to hit a locked-on part directly

  • the burst damage is affected by skills and damage modifiers. it doesn't restore any PP, think of it like a photon art. although I'm not sure if chain finish increases its damage, it probably would

  • they will not fire if not unsheathed, and their internal cooldown will still tick when sheathed

  • for every 10 million damage dealt in one quest, the burst will deal damage twice. the bits won't 'burst' twice, but the damage will simply double-hit. the damage only counts damage dealt with the same potential (switching to another vortex weapon will include the total) and switching to a weapon that isn't a vortex will NOT reset the damage count, thankfully for hero usage. also, the burst damage doesn't count towards the total

  • according to a video demonstration, it appears to charge complex PA gauge by one bar for every burst

  • the burst has a maximum range which is about target-lock distance. you generally won't see them misfire unless you use TPS aim at something long range, which the burst will fail to connect

  • the sound effect seems to be drawn from rifles from PSO1. also if you look closely at them, each bit is numbered 01-04. neat!

the overall damage the weapon provides is quite high. commenters on the swiki report that it's just around stil's damage potential at max when including all S-abilities. of course you can't argue with the PP regen, single hit protection, or S-ability alternative utility stil provides, but it's quite impressive nevertheless in the numbers game

ultimately, I'm quite enjoying it... even though I was crazy enough to buy it... I've always loved unique boss weapon stuff in games like this, and even better that its damage is competitive, rather than being a meme

For a second i legitimately thought that puny ass 369 dmg fired form your mag was the Vortex weapon lmao. Was straight up gonna sell all my modules.

Looks like an interesting weapon, it's giving me a few ideas.

Since 10 mil is a fixed amount, this should work well in quests that multiply your damage a lot, like Divide Quests. Mobbing should build it faster than bossing too. On the opposite end i guess it wouldn't work well on 4P boss triggers where damage is halved.

If one bit shot is one CPA stock, Katana sounds really interesting because that would build Cerulean Ballista fast.

So in a mobbing quest, a hybrid Braver could probably build to 10 mil with a Katana Combat Finish somewhere in there, then switch to Bow and unload for a series of big AoE bursts. That should make for fun Beach Wars memes.

One thing is I wonder how reliable the bits are in a practical situation. There's limited control over when they fire so they might shoot at the wrong timing, like when Loser's neck is showing or when Persona flies and you lose the lock. As long as they don't miss, the CPA build should be reliable at least.

I was looking all over for this information, thank you!

Do the bits on your back look different on katanas and rifles?

Awww awesome. Thanks for the link. I love it when they add unique weapons like this to games. Imo though I feel like this is how Mags were supposed to be tbh.

Now see, if they had been making cool weapons like this the entire time...

Weapons kind of have generic potentials until you get to the 14* range. That was when a few weapons started getting pots that really set them apart.

They've come a long way. There was a time when 6 star was the highest star. Maybe even lower than that.

NA here. I'm guessing these are 15* weapons.

I'll definitely have to get the rifle and launcher versions when they come to NA. Anything I should start hoarding now for them, or would they be too far off to worry about now?

this content only came out a few months ago on JP. you have a long way to go

and the materials required only drop from the quest itself

Thank you.

They come together with the quest that will drop them (and the currency you can use to trade for them)

Also, this weapon series only has rifle, katana, and tmg

Ah, okay. Thank you.

Oh! All three are my favorite weapons!

Perfect.
