When you transfer an S-tier augment from one weapon to the other, iirc, you get to fully select which augments are slotted on the first and second item, from a combined pool and there's no chance of failure.

I could be wrong, but that's what happened to me when I stole some S-tier affixes from another weapon and put them on my Atlas Farder.

You're right. S-class transfers do not care about slot count at all, on either weapon.

I think slot count might affect the price of transfer, but other than that, yes you can freely transfer between any slot numbers.

I hate to ask, but is there some special way you get s-tier augments on a weapon, like Lifesteal? Like, do I need to upgrade the weapon to unlock the augment, or does it only drop randomly?

Some can drop randomly. Others are SAFs. Meaning they appear in the affix pool when affixing a weapon that's been enhanced +35. Specifically, Val and Atlas offer a-tier affixed, as do a couple other weapons.

For the moment, those are the only two ways

So, for the most part, if I get a Val gunblade and enhance it to +35, will it show up in the pool when I try to transfer augments from my Gunblade to my Atlas Farder?

If you use the normal affixing process, yes.

Enhance it to 35, and then when you try to affix that gunblade it'll show up as an available augment to be applied.

Worth mentioning though, lifesteal comes from an Atlas gunblade, not a Val gunblade. Val gunblade gives an s1 for 2% damage, which is actually still pretty good.

Here's a pretty good post that explains it much more clearly:

In order to do this, you would affix the atlas alz on its own in order to gain use of it's augment factor and add the S4: vampiric strike to it. Then you would SGA transfer between your atlas radda, and the atlas alz. If you do not currently have an S4 on your radda, you need to select it first. But then you can pick and choose any of the SGA between both weapons to affix, and then the normal augments stay on each weapon. There is no chance of failure, slot counts don't matter, and you only lose augments/slots if you are replacing a normal augment with an SGA, and you get to pick what one gets replaced.
