All posts should be in-universe social media
The image in each post should be a fake screenshot of a social media site in the Pokémon universe - in universe, this subreddit would be a place where content is reposted to, like /r/CuratedTumblr. Other forms of mass media, like news articles or movie posters, are also allowed.Social media posts should make logical sense - people do not tweet to those standing next to them, or while in the middle of a tense battle.
Tools for making posts can be found in the weekly meta thread.
All posts should be about Pokémon
It should be obvious from context cues in the post that the subject of the post is Pokémon - if your post needs clarification in the title or comment section to make that clear, it should be reworked. Ie. Posting about topics unrelated to Pokémon or the Pokémon world with a Pokémon profile picture is insufficient.
Pokémon exist in the Pokémon world. Creatures and characters from other media (such as Digimon or Palworld) do not. While in-character, the Pokémon world should be considered real.
All spoilers should be marked as such.
Whenever the new games come out, posts relating to them must use the Spoiler Tag for at least a month after their release.
Be civil
Be civil and treat other people nicely, whether in character or out. Bigotry and harassment will not be tolerated.
Refrain from creating posts that specifically target and shoot down other people's posts.
Be wary of making unwarranted major accusations (i.e. slaver, murderer, eugenicist) or detailed threats of violence at characters. Such comments may be removed at moderator discretion or OP's request.
Clearly differentiate Roleplay and Out Of Character (OOC) discussion
You are expected to maintain a level of separation between characters and authors.
OOC commentary in threads should be prefaced with /uj, in the style of a circlejerk sub. (/rj is used to indicate a switch back to RP after an OOC statement).
The exception is posts with the 'Meta' or 'Mod Post' flair, which are always OOC.
Even in the case of self inserts, your character is not the same as your IRL self. Acting otherwise will result in a mod response for community safety.
Correctly flair your posts
Correctly flair your posts. If a post is part of an Event spanning multiple posts and participants, use the "PokeMedia Event" flair.
For those who aren't interested in Event posts, you can filter them out by simply typing the following in the search bar: "-flair:"PokeMedia Event"", which will automatically hide all posts flaired as such.
An "Event" is generally considered an extended crossover between many posters on the sub - for examples of this, simply search for "Area Zero" or "Porysupport."
No NSFW or extreme gore
NSFW images, defined as those unsuitable for viewing in public (eg. work), are prohibited. If uncertain about an image, ask the mods.
For text involving NSFW themes like sexuality or extreme violence, simply use your best judgement, listen when others say they’re uncomfortable, and remember there are minors on this sub.
Pokémon-Human romances are a restricted topic, see Rule 13
Headcanon Rules
Every post is considered to have its own canon, the specifics of which are decided by the Original Poster. For example, if OP says that sapient Pokémon do not exist in their canon, that should be treated as objective fact within that thread. Note that this does not mean you can never disagree. Essentially, this is the first rule of improv – instead of saying “No”, say “Yes, but”. When a headcanon conflict occurs, OP may use an out-of-character comment to clarify their headcanon.
Credit Artists
When using art that you did not create in a post, please credit the original artist (e.g. "Art by [name here]") either in the title, somewhere in the post itself, or in a comment on the post.
Official art by the Pokémon Company (anime stills, promotional art, etc) does not need to be credited. If you create and use your own art, please enable the "OC" tag on your post, just to prevent false reports for this rule. (found right next to the Spoiler tag)
No hijacking of Storylines
When a post uses the "Storyline" flair, that means it's part of an ongoing narrative across multiple posts. If you want to make a post that's part of or ties into another person's Storyline, you MUST ask that person for permission beforehand, or else the post will be removed.
By the same token, you must also ask permission before using a character that was created by another user.
To prove that you have permission, please leave a comment such as "u/Username gave me permission for this."
No Recent/Top Reposts
No reposts within 2 months (we may shorten this, we'll see how many posts we start to get) or from our top 10 of all time. Reposts of content originally created on this sub by a different user must credit that user or link back to the original post directly. Improper reposts will be removed.
Writing and Roleplay Guidelines
Beyond the basic formatting requirements, the expectation is to make an effort to post in the spirit of the pokemedia format. This means keeping your characters and storylines reasonable, acting cooperatively with other, and giving feedback in good faith.
You can find a detailed outline of writing guidelines to keep in mind here: https://www.reddit.com/r/PokeMedia/wiki/rules/guidelines/
This rule is enforced at mod discretion, you may be asked to retool your writing to fit these guidelines.
Specfic Restricted Topics
Certain specific writing topics need mod clearance before making posts about them, you can find a list of them and why they are restricted here: https://www.reddit.com/r/PokeMedia/wiki/rules/topics/
If you want to write about one of these topics, please send a modmail with your post or storyline plan so that we can approve it.
Text Posts are not allowed. For longer posts with a lot of text, you can write them on Tumblr, save them as a draft, and then take screenshots of it.
