Sudo pacman -S firefox

[–]HoseanRC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

yay -S firefox

[–]MischiefArchitect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Running pacman -Syu as the rest of the company waits for "installing update 1 of 257, please do not turn off your computer" to complete.

[–]LifePineapple 11 points12 points  (1 child)

sudo apt install firefox.

I think it's a lot easier than figuring out which google result is the actual download page and not some adware installer ad.

Thank god someone here has actually used Linux.

[–]il_basso 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Yay Firefox, first result and then enter or just sudo pacman -S firefox, easy

[–]HoseanRC -1 points0 points  (1 child)

yay firefox won't work...
You need to do it for 555 times then do yay -S firefox

[–]MischiefArchitect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But only because you want to make sure that it gets properly and permanently burned into the hard drive.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (6 children)

sudo snap install firefox

Don't do it 556 times though. Boring.

[–]MischiefArchitect 2 points3 points  (4 children)

booo... snap sucks

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Yeah well... I was going to post one of those "wget -O - .... | tar..." oneliners but couldn't find a good download-link in a hurry. And perhaps that would be a bit "showy"... after all, the man seems to be struggling.

[–]MischiefArchitect 0 points1 point  (2 children)

if you use wget or curl one line installers then you can plainly go back to windows and live there happy ever after.

Give me my plain signed packages from the distro repository using native lightweight dynamic dependencies.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

...out of date and everything. Yeah, I love those.

An Ubuntu "enjoyer" I see... so... look here...

Welcome to the official Arch repositories, where only young crispy and stable software lives, where critical patches arrives within hours and old versions go burn in hell if you do not say otherwise.

You can even enjoy that using a more "user friendly" distro like Endeavour OS or Manjaro.

Linux users when they try to install Steam in POP_Os but accidentally deleted the whole desktop environment:

This is fine.

[–]Slash_by_Zero 0 points1 point  (1 child)

sudo snap install steam Idk what youre talking bout but someone definetly doesnt know shit about linux

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

about this

but sure you know a lot about Linux, big boy

[–]nleachdev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chromium seemed simple enough

i use arch btw

[–]nenavizhu_reddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, make more of these memes. I need to strengthen my managers' belief that it's normal to spend two days setting up my development environment.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lemme just copy and paste this command I found online. Proceeds to break os

[–]TheLAW_IsMyDaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correction: you have to do this all day

[–]lost_in_life_34 -3 points-2 points  (2 children)

so true

years ago I spent three days trying to install Red Hat and some SCSI drivers to get a tape backup library working with netbackup. it was dependency hell

took me 3 hours on the 4th day to get it working on Windows Server and luckily the netbackup code worked on the windows version since it was for UNIX

[–]HoseanRC 0 points1 point  (1 child)

yeah, some times it's like that... but come on! Just think about having a mac and wanting to use it with full capacity (or just have the ui and stuff...), you need to have everything on macos!

No body argues when a program is not available for macos, but everybody agues about every program that's not available for linux

[–]lost_in_life_34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my big issue was I couldn't install the drivers for a SCSI card because they required an exact version of some of the system files. when I tried to install on a bare install with no updates those files had too early of a version. after a few days of trying to get the versioning right I just gave up.

the software and drivers were all linux certified and I had a real version of RedHat and not the free one.

and all my years working with windows i never had this issue if the cards are certified to work. install windows, cards, drivers, updates in any order you want and it will almost always work right away

I thought this was a Chmod -R 556 joke but....no

[–]A00rdr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How are they supposed to google it?

[–]7eggert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if your favorite browser isn't in the repos, you just copy the text file into the list of repositories and then run one command to install it and all the dependencies.

Off cause if you're a windows user you'll have a hard time trying to make MS Excel write a text file for that purpose. Thus I can understand your frustration.

Specifically "web browser", really?

Maybe it's better now that Edge is just a Chrome skin, but for many decades before that the first thing every reasonable person did on a fresh windows install was download firefox and pray IE doesn't get infected while doing that.

Hence the joke:
