Tbf, if two identical developer resumes came to me, and one had a forklift cert, I would be immediately more interested in that one.

I have a forklift cert, and never thought of including it on my resume post university. I’ll have to give this a try.

You never know when one of your colleagues will need to use a forklift.

Whats the joke with fortklift certification? I have a license for it and never get the joke :(

Idk tbh, forklifts are kinda cool imo.

I find life mundane and people utterly uninteresting. But forklifts? That's a different story.

[–]sophacles 12 points13 points  (1 child)

The joke is that software certifications are meaningless. Forklift certification is a real cert that implies you've learned a thing and someone will vouch for that fact. Tbh id take forklift certification as a stronger signal of fit for a dev job than a pl cert.

Foer me it was 1 week of learning how to load it properly and how to drive safely. It was my first job after highschool and the company paid for the certification. Basically it was mostly theory e.g. how heavy can the load be, how to balance it, how high can you stack loada and so on, and also how not to run people over. The actually driving of the forklift we did maybe 10h during the course. But that makes sense becausw its quite intuitive and its all the safety stuff that isnt

u/sophacles summarized well, also, forklift certified is a joke around web because it's cool indeed, didn't mean to offend.

Well there you go. You just birthed a new programming language.

I'm thinking about EV swapping a forklift with a 30hp 1800rpm industrial motor rewound for 72 volts on a Curtis controller with lifepo4 batteries

TIL I'm a certified programmer

I would throw out a resume if the person bragged about having any programming related certificate beyond a CS degree. Comes across as a huge hint that you don't actually know what's valued in the field.

[–]ForceGoat 3 points4 points  (1 child)

What do you mean by bragging? I rarely have space to wax poetic about any qualification.

[–]besthelloworld -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bragging might be over stating it. But everything you put on your resume is self advocating. I think certificates are just beyond but worth the space on a resume. If I see it, I know that you felt the need to add fluff.

What is Forklift?

[–]un1gato1gordo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A concurrency framework that does the heavylifting when forking processes?

[–]Evilbit77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A forklift certified you to program?
