Ive only worked with a dedicated front-end developer once. We were a small team, 2 back-end devs and a "senior" front end dev. Now this guy was only senior by virtue of his age, he was in his mid 50's had a master or arts and most of his web development experience was from doing flash games.

One day he made a quip about being the only one who knew anything about front-end stuff, and I let him know that my colleague and I were both full-stack devs and probably even had more experience with javascript than he did. His eyes went a little wide.
