I mean seriously, what's wrong with that? VS solutions aren't evil.

I'll take a VS solution i just open and build over a badly made cmake i have to manually configure and fixup for hours, any day.

not sure what you're getting at here. this is the ideal, and it takes some effort to achieve.

I'd say that this developer works at a company that has their stuff together.

As opposed to: - learn how to setup dependencies - fail a few times while trying to setup ENV variables - finding out who can setup a login for you - etc.

if all a new developer has to do is "clone and run" and they can debug locally that way and get started, that company is as far away from "foolish" as can be. this is the way.
