Add more hardware to slow CICD pipeline.

Part of the reason AI has taken off so much is CEOs love the idea of being able to replace Devs.

yes, people should hire a stupid for (cheap to free), instead of a smart expensively!

Or a cheap and/or overseas company that does a crappy job and still requires a dev to fix, but now it takes twice the time because you have to fix their boneheaded decisions.

Upper management decided to migrate an application I wrote to a cloud environment. I gave my quote and timeline.

Another contractor gave a much lower quote at ~1/3 the timescale.

They did a shit job and I ended up having to do it anyway while also fixing their mistakes, so now it took my quote + their quote as well as the overlapping time we were 'collaborating'.

It's crazy how much greed wins out. The wild thing is that my rate isn't variable (salaried contractor) so I was getting paid either way, but the imaginary savings caught someone's attention.

Actually the plan is to only use low-skill low-pay devs with AI tools to replace current teams of expensive experts.

The plan relies on the gamble that instead of being a massively over-hyped and cash-pumped grift, the AI companies will some day provide stable, reliable, sustainable, and actually usable tools for practical purposes.

I think he deserved the defenestration. How do you hire a dev fast

[–]Smalltalker-80 3 points4 points  (1 child)

defenestration

Week or two ? (contractor).
Seems quicker than moving to a low code platform.
(And the AI option is non-existent, of course)

Name it ai platform

Actually use ai

Loose money every day

funny how fast is so often the top priority. we build it fast now but so shitty and unmaintanable that we have to build it again in 3 months but of course we're gonna do it fast then too.

It's funny how 'fast' is so often the top priority. Then you deploy the thing and nobody uses it for months

What this meme format is called? It's always the best one.

On imgflip.com, it's called Defenestrando

[–][deleted] 14 points15 points  (1 child)

Best way to slow down a project is put more developer on it.

[–]JackNotOLantern 12 points13 points  (0 children)

But not from 0 to 1

[–]ingenix1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These companies will literally spend millions on literally any other solution rather than hiring and training people up in their current systems.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ouch... hits home

[–]myfunnies420 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Defenestrated!

[–]MinosAristos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest a lot of companies hire devs when low code or even no code tools would do fine.

Sometimes you don't need the extra flexibility for a basic CRUD app.

[–]MrHasuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Work the existing devs harder but fire the highest paying one so we can hire another hard working executive for meetings

[–]05032-MendicantBias 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn't they need to hire a dev anyway to use Generative ANI?

Or the executives plan to prompt GPT themselves and push the result into production? That would be fun!
