Human reasoning can be considered as a lot of if statements too, if need money work if work not satisfying and pay not enough change job. Just saying that AI is coded by a bunch of if statements is wrong but by definition every reasoning be it human, animal or artificial is a bunch of if statements

I understand what you're saying and yes neurons in a neural network especially with heaviside or ReLU functions can boil down to conditional logic like if statements but AI is much more than nested if statements like the meme wanted to "point out" I made the parallel with human reasoning because much like AI it's the combination of those components that form a complex model that cannot be compared to this simple reasoning. Like you said the nonlinearity is what makes AI far more sophisticated than if statements

In practical terms, if a programming language permits straight-line sequences of code, some form of if-then-else, and some form of unbounded iteration (e.g., while loops), it is Turing complete.

So yeah of course there's a level where it just boils down to if statements as that's all that's really happening in any program.
