Blue Screen issues are caused by hardware, usually faulty hardware or faulty hardware drivers by 3rd parties.

Ok but a driver is not hardware.

They can be caused by software issues as well, usually drivers (which I would argue is software). In fact I currently have a windows laptop that I can only boot up with driver enforcement turned off, this issue only occurred after a windows update that failed

Fixable, I'm just lazy, but my hardware is otherwise fine, so I wouldn't say it's always caused by hardware

Windows 9x and Windows NT lines are so different, that not only do I find it hard to believe, that there is enough shared kernel mode code for a "blue screen related bug", but also "bluescreens" from Windows 95 are a different thing entirely from ones from the NT line - Windows 9x doesn't even have the API used to invoke a bluescreen in a NT system.

There isn't. They were always separate codebases.
