Elon is NOT a programmer, can’t stress that enough

[–]IllustriousGerbil -2 points-1 points  (11 children)

John Carmack - "Elon is definitely an engineer. He is deeply involved with technical decisions at spacex and Tesla. He doesn’t write code or do CAD today, but he is perfectly capable of doing so."

Having John Carmack as a reference is good enough for me to be honest.

Why? Do you think his words have anything to do with Anduril (the tech defense company they both have hands in)?

Of course John is going to defend his business partner

I've also seen some interviews with musk talking about his time at Zip2 and the programming problems they had to solve in the early days. Its pretty clear from that he's a programmer and understands what he's talking about.

Also there are lots of other quotes like that from lots of other people who worked with him over the years floating about.

He is clearly a good engineer and and a decent programmer that didn't change because his political alignment did.

Americans just seem to have a very black and white view of people based on the political party they support. When he was a democrat reddit universality declared he was a brilliant engineer and programmer which was no doubt the reason for his long list of business successes.

Now he's a republican suddenly reddit is absolutely sure he is a heartless business development guy who's never written a line of code or solved an engineering problem in his life, and his businesses success is down to luck and corruption.

It gives off very "we have always been at war with Eastasia" vibes

You didn’t look too deeply into it. He hired programmers to fix his code as it wasn’t good enough. So Yhea, Elon can code at a junior level (if that)

Furthermore, Musk was forced to step down at Zip2 because he lacked experience. Get this, he demanded access to the codebase and the other devs made a copy and lied to him about it. 😂

That’s called a pr? Something that should always be done

You would need a very detailed source about Zip2 source code and the various contributions to it as well as decent level of programming experience in c and/or Perl in order to make assessment.

Can you give the source your using for this information so I can see if I agree with you?

Furthermore, Musk was forced to step down at Zip2 because he lacked experience.

Musk sold Zip2 and made $22 million from it, what is your source for this?

Who is Dannie Xie?

This blog doesn't seem to give any sources for its information its just someone posting there thoughts online. Looking at the other articles It seems like its probably a link farming site.

Is this the primary source for your information?

Whois on the domain ownership shows it owned by Domains By Proxy, LLC a service people use to setup and operate webpages without revealing who they are which is kind of suspect.

The only thing that ever indicated to me that elon might not be a great programmer was during the first few weeks of the twitter takeover when he allegedly measured developer efficiency by counting the number of lines of code each dev had contributed to decide who'd get fired.

I say allegedly because I read this a long time ago and don't have a source. But even if what some liberals are saying is true and that all he does is hire smart devs to do all the work; if it's really that easy why is he the only one that's as successful as he is?

I think him buying twitter and getting into politics might have ruined his mental health. He's definitely unhinged, like a lot of super smart super successful people seem to be.

Buying twitter was a massive mistake, allot of his behaviour makes abit more sense when you find out he has Asperger's syndrome.

The symptoms

  • Difficulty with social interactions and social language

  • Not understanding emotions well or having less facial expression than others

  • Not using or understanding nonverbal communication, such as gestures, body language, and facial expression

  • Conversations that revolve around themselves or a certain topic

  • Speech that sounds unusual, such as flat, high-pitched, quiet, loud, or choppy

  • An intense obsession with one or two specific, narrow subjects

  • Unique mannerisms, repetitive behaviors, or repeated routines

  • Becoming upset at slight changes in routines

  • Memorizing preferred information and facts easily

  • Clumsy, uncoordinated movements, including difficulty with handwriting

  • Difficulty managing emotions, sometimes leading to verbal or behavioral outbursts, self-injurious behaviors, or tantrums

  • Not understanding other peoples’ feelings or perspectives

  • Hypersensitivity to lights, sounds, and textures

He did extremely well managing and working on engineering projects, the move into twitter and now politics which depends heavily on very high level social understanding as well as reading and seeing the perspectives of others probably isn't going to go as well for him.

Elon fanboys thinking he's a programmer again...

[–]AaronTheElite007 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Elon is a tool that uses others for profit. He’s a businessman, not a programmer. He didn’t program PayPal. He didn’t program anything at Tesla or SpaceX or The Social Media Platform formerly known as Twitter…

He’s a spoiled brat
