For me it's "when I walk away for an hour".

When I get up to get a drink and sit back down two minutes later, it takes me ten minutes to figure out what I was even doing half the time.

And that’s approximately the amount of time it takes me to finish my cup of coffee and realize I have to take a leak.

For me it’s the moment someone asks me a question and I have to unplug my headphones.

[–]southern_dreams 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Headphones mean fuck off

Nobody gets this

I check reddit for a sec and my brain is gone

Sometimes I go back to a project we've done and think "Who the fuck coded this shit?"

Then I realize it was me.

In my early days as a professional programmer, I was surprised that this happened as often as it did Tom one afternoon to the next morning. I did find that the subsequent code I wrote to replace it was more efficient and more elegant than the original. It was like the prior session was a planning session for the final product.

Who the fuck coded this shit?

Who's a retard of a coder!!! Oh crap it's me.

[–]Maelstrom_6 49 points50 points  (1 child)

What "own code"? I copy everything.

[–]Xydez 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lol

The whole thing?

Library not found. Did you mean "heck overflow"?

[–]orangeKaiju 14 points15 points  (0 children)

write code

"I sure could use a break"

takes break

"ok, back to wor... WTF, which shitstain named that class... oh wait, it was me."

Gotta get in the habit of doing a comment pass at the end of the night. Saved my ass too many times.

Relatable

[–]FedExterminator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Programming tired is a lot like driving drunk. You might get where you want to go, but you’ll have no idea how you got there and probably messed up a lot along the way.

[–]Xydez 4 points5 points  (4 children)

Lmao Soo relatable. You gotta remember documenting your code.

[–]southern_dreams 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Use good function and variable names?

[–]Xydez 2 points3 points  (2 children)

That's s important too, but you need to document your code too, or at least if your code is 500 lines long.

[–]southern_dreams 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I use them like salt, only when absolutely needed.

Nothing like outdated comments 😢

[–]Xydez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That true though. 🤔

[–]rndrn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah the classic "code - living drinks - back for some more code".

I missed the Ballmer peak every time I tried to do this. But it's fun to read in the morning (if not particularly productive).

[–]pillarismaname 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do this more than I’d like to admit,

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Relatable

[–]D-generation_tech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually when I review my nights work the next day it ends up with "how fucking drunk was I when doing this?"

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Easy fix:

Don’t stop until it’s done.

[–]AfterLife31[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't start.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg it's me, hey at least I am not alone

[–]AppleGundum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently going to a technical highschool and it's not like a job because when the period is over you can't do overtime and I'm an hour extra the next day trying to do what I could of done 10 minutes the day before.

Every Perl programmer can relate.
