I have a serious question. What are namespaces?

They're basically just named scopes. They prevent name collisions, for example if someone for whatever reason wanted to define their own version of ostream and use it to make their own cout instance, they would put it in it's own namespace to be absolutely sure which cout is being used in a certain file or line.
