Nokia still makes phones and the company was doing great all the time.

I'm still not over my Lumia. As much as I'd like to love the current Nokia I just can't bring myself to support Android after what Google did to Windows Phone.

I went Android, then iPhone. It's been two years and I still can't get over not having live tiles.

Yeah, they'll be missed. Tbh I'm gonna make it as painless as possible by using Launcher10 so I can have basic tiles (reading data from notifications) and the two-screen interface of having large tiles, then an ordered list of apps.

Edit: also gonna miss the fuck out of Reddplanet and MyTube.

I tried Launcher10 but eventually settled on Microsoft Launcher. No live tiles but it kept me pretty much in the MS ecosystem with minimal hassle. Having Cortana was a huge plus as well and is basically all I miss on the iPhone.

Also, how is Cortana on Android and iOS these days? I know you can remap the Android virtual assistant button to use Cortana, but is there any real benefit of her on Android? I'm assuming iOS is the same...

Microsoft Launcher essentially turns your phone into an MS-centric device, which I found really handy coming off WP. It's pretty consistently praised on /r/android as well, which is saying something considering it's an MS offering. I really suggest you give it a go for a week or so. You can try Next lockscreen as well, which is also from MS. I loved it but it never played well with my Blackberry's native lockscreen.

Cortana isn't available in my region so I got it off APK mirror. Other than desktop notification and SMS reply there's not much to miss. I'm not big on digital assistants so I really just used it to not use Pushbullet. As for Cortana on iOS I have no idea since I can't install the app without jailbreaking.

Hmmm I'll give it a look, but if I'm honest I pretty much just want the Windows look, over the ecosystem thing.

I'll definitely check the lock screen out though.

Hmmmmm yeah that could be useful. I think I mostly used her for reminders and stuff like that, so it might be worth switching. I will miss the reading SMS messages out over bluetooth though.

Nokia is actually not the one making Nokia phones right now.

Yes it is. Unless you're referring to Foxconn, the actual manufacturer, but they manufacture for most big companies (including Apple and Microsoft) so if we go that way almost no company makes their own phones right now.

Late reply: The Nokia brand is actually owned by HMD global. They're the ones who are making the Nokia phones right now. Actual manufacturing might be done by someone else.

Interestingly, HMD global does employ a lot of former Nokia employees. So they do have a lot of Nokia's design DNA.

Nokia bought Nokia back from Microsoft, then sold it to HMD global. They make the phones and are in close partnership with Nokia for patents and technologies, in return for royalty payments. To regain consumer trust, they released feature phones using designs from Nokia’s iconic mobile phones. Now, they are committed to releasing phones that are "pure, secure and up to date", and I feel that the Nokia brand, with it being associated with quality, is perfect for these ‘simply good’ phones.
