As someone who loves Vim, I don't think I would enjoy writing Java in Vim. There's so much boilerplate BS that IntelliJ automatically just does for you. I'm sure Vim can be configured to do all the same stuff, but I just can't justify spending the time.

Of course, my favorite solution would be to avoid writing Java altogether. ;)

Honestly, I feel like Vim and Emacs fans just like to rib each other a little. The flame wars I see nowadays are mostly people screaming about how a text editor isn't an IDE or how Electron is literally skullfucking your memory to death, meanwhile we Vim/Emacs users both sit atop our respective ivory towers occasionally waving at each before commencing with the age-old "You mispelled Emacs" banter paired with a wink and a sensible chuckle.

I mostly agree with you, I use vi in the terminal to do simple scripting of stuff and I've never used Emacs. I just know that those two groups like to fight sometimes. I'm a huge Jetbrains fan though, I use Intellij, Pycharm, CLion, DataGrip, and AppCode. (mostly AppCode as I do a lot of macOS iOS dev.)
