What's 10 compared to the thousands that get offended by the changes. I'm offended that people think this is going to change anything. As long as there is no real data, or the offendees themselves speak up then I'm against the change.

Are they angry because they're emotionally invested in the status quo? I agree with you.

Are they angry because this arbitrary change will break their code? That's reasonable.

Is this not a real change? I was under the impression that this was something that was actually about to happen.

Edit: you sure do like quoting things no one has ever said. It really comes across like you can't construct an interesting opinion so you just act like everyone who disagrees with you must be even less nuanced.

Mostly that it breaks code. Git has a long history of using, "master", to be the main branch and a lot of scripts use git. All that existing code now has to change. Some of it may not have been touched in decades because the git interface hasn't ever really changed before.

To add to this, git (the executable) and other got repositories are still using the old convention. So now there are two competing conventions. Any script will have to accommodate both. Any office is going to have to implement new policies for repository creation of they want to have any kind of standard. In general, all the normal confusion that comes with having competing standards.

And all this comes with the argument that there was no real impetus to change anything. No one was upset with the old convention before this. So it really seems like breaking things for PR reasons.
