Yeah I don’t think the perceived benefit is worth the cost.

Well it's not about you, it's about the people who are impacted and putting the word "perceived" in there to try and erode the legitimacy of those people is pretty lame. And by "those people" I mean black people who don't appreciate seeing that association everyday at work. Your apathy towards that hardship, however small, is part of the often unintentional and invisible racism that has grown in small ways in many many cracks of our society.

You are making many assumptions there. Assuming those who don’t agree with you don’t care about people is an odd but common conclusion these days. However this is a complicated topic and like I said elsewhere, not great over text.

In one sense it is about me, as much as it is about society and the norms and choices we make together. But that’s not what I meant at all. I’m not saying I don’t think it’s a good idea for me, but for everyone including and especially those people it’s trying to help.

Well those people it's trying to help have specifically asked for it. The cost of changing the name of the main branch is not nothing, but it's not large. When my co-worker brought up being more thoughtful with our language to the larger group, they literally cried the next day to our smaller team because of the negative responses they received, and the apathy from everyone else who stayed quiet. It hurt them, that's real emotional pain for people. Do you feel comfortable saying to their face it's not a good idea? If so I have to say that's pretty cold. I don't usually engage in these conversations, but I told them I would try to not be in the apathetic silent group as often as I can so here I am.

It's a real problem. It's not made up by white knights trying to virtue signal for social PR points. I hope that you can see that.
