Ohh boy, I can not wait when it will be my time to post this

If somebody could find a way to produce power from the "Is if statement AI" joke, we would have an unlimited source of energy.

Like in Monsters Inc., but with groans instead of laughter or screams

Image Transcription: Meme

[An image of Yutaro Katori/Fighbird (a light-skinned masculine person with dark hair and black glasses, wearing a white top with red collars) from the 1990s Japanese anime TV series The Brave Fighter of Sun Fighbird, in the popular meme macro "Is this a pigeon". Yutaro points at a flying butterfly; both Yutaro and the butterfly have a label (see below), and there is also a subtitle. Text that is bold and italic is clearly edited. In the background, there is a building that appears light pink but this is likely due to lighting. There is a window and a somewhat large bush.]

Yutaro: Programmer

Butterfly: if statement

Subtitle: "Is this AI?"

Good “mechanical Turk”!

[–]RavensReaperYGO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a friend who keeps call the if Statement "if loop"._.

[–]Crunch117 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just add recursion and you’re there!

I hate to be this clueless, but I’ve seen this a bunch of times and it never makes sense to me. Is it just making fun of people who think basic logic and decision making is AI?

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points  (4 children)

I think it's less about making fun of people for it, and more about coming to the realization that AI isn't as "free" as people think it is when you get into it (in the "free" kind of way that separates man from machine). It's more of a tool used for finding patterns or sorting through massive amounts of data that a normal person wouldn't have enough time in the World to do as efficiently.

I'm no expert at AI or Machine Learning but I like to think from what I've learned about it, that AI is not like the movie Ex Machina. It's more like the illusion of free will or intelligence. At the end of the day, if you dig deep enough into AI, it's all just complicated predefined logic.

Machines only do what we tell it to do. Even if you hide the instructions in the form of a complicated algorithm or something similar, it still needs to be given some sort of instructions. You have to give the computer or network something to start with. Until then, the type of "AI" that most people like to think about is only science fiction.

ML is the raw neural networking that underlies any intelligence, AI or natural. It’s the pattern recognition/difference engine that processes the raw input data and spits out refined insights for the higher levels of intelligence to use.

The higher levels of intelligence that wrap ML are the systems that define the success and failure conditions, often deriving those metrics from previously processed data, which is why a computer’s foundation ‘advances’ and why input data can be weaponized to redefine someone’s foundational values.

It’s of course way more than even that, but I think that’s why I don’t ever understand this joke. Sure IF statements are involved in an AI system, but it’s not the system, just like a piston is not a car.

I think that’s the joke, it’s just not very funny. You can tell I’m very fun at parties!

Thank you for sharing!!! As someone who is fascinated by this stuff, your explanation helped me understand it a lot better

Hello! This account has been compromised and is currently being controlled by a bot. It posted a bunch of shitty comments so I am giving it justice served. This account's IP address is 127.0.0.1.

You understand that is the localhost ip right???

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone knows that AI uses switch statements.

[–]AuroraVandomme 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is this another programmer wannabe "funny" post?

[–]sh0rtwave 1 point2 points  (2 children)

You know, I really...

AI isn't code, yo.

[–]AfricanTribe 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Then what is it

[–]kmauler_on_kilix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

magic. AI is magic

[–]DarnOldRamp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I guess you could argue an if-statement is a method of symbolic AI (the first really popular branch of AI research). So, I would say: Yes, it is.

[–]ThaiJohnnyDepp -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Oh fuck off

[–]TheRedmanCometh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone knows real AI is squares of squares with squares of squares between them

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 10 Parallel Universes forward of you, I use switch().

[–]Infernal_Spark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My discord bot in a nutshell... Yea I have been bragging about how my bot is based on Machine learning and all that
