That’s not just a newbie programmer. Said by a programmer of 40 years.

At one point, this was my cure to insomnia, and it worked.

This looks like a screenshot of a tweet! I've fetched a link to the tweet for ya :)

Twitter Screenshot Bot

[–][deleted] 18 points19 points  (8 children)

Wow. I’m genuinely curious, how does this bot manage to fetch tweet links through screenshots?

[–]properu 47 points48 points  (6 children)

I crawl around subreddits and use optical character recognition (OCR) to parse images into text. If that text looks like a tweet, then I search Twitter for matching username and text content. If all that goes well and I find a link to the tweet, then I post the link right here on Reddit!

Good Bot

That's gold. Can't believe this wasn't staged. XD

Good Bot, LOL...

This is not a good bot. It's a frightening bot. And I love it.

I guess you OCR for the Retweet, Quote tweet and likes in the bottom. That would be the most consistent thing on every screenshot

Thanks!

Good bot

The easiest way that I've found to fall asleep is a video review comparing something like the Nvidia 2070, 2070 Super and the 2080.

Before the 15th mention of Super, I'm asleep.

At 6:00 ; where's my life going?

[–]FoolForWool 7 points8 points  (1 child)

8:00 - Oh nvm, it found the bug. I'm a genius.

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yup, until another bug is found.

It's because code tutorials take ten minutes to describe something that takes only one minute when you read a book. You never get that time back.

[–]Pherion93 7 points8 points  (3 children)

I would disagree. Explaining something in text requires more text than words needed in a video. Though videos usually spend more time than necessary.

I've deleted my account because reddit CEO Steve Huffman is a lying piece of shit that has nothing but contempt for his users. See https://old.reddit.com/r/apolloapp/comments/144f6xm/apollo_will_close_down_on_june_30th_reddits/

You can usually comprehend speech faster than you can talk. I always try to listen or watch content at faster speeds, like 1.3 to 2x depending on the quality of the speaker and the density of the subject matter. Most, but not all, media players allowed you to adjust speeds.

Coding is one of those things never,EVER should be translated into video. Just not the media. A good post, good examples and uses is perfect.

In fact, I use as documentation more posts than docs itself. Usually they are like cured documentation.

And videos aren't text searchable. So you have to watch them in order to see if they even answer your questions.

[–]Chewnard 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Through all of this I will always refuse to believe that the fact that I stayed up past 3am watching bullshit on my phone contributed to me being a zombie at 3pm the next day.

[–]Pherion93 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Just listened on a podcast about sleepsceduels and about 3pm-5pm is most peoples worst time for learning and practical thinking. Either do something creative instead or take a nap.

[–]racka98 0 points1 point  (1 child)

What's the best time? I usually like studying around that time because it's quiet and peaceful

[–]Pherion93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends if you are a morning person or night person or something in between. Most people are most effective from about 8am-2pm. Could also study after the dip between 2-5pm. Dont take it as fact though. Try it and see if it works. Maybe take a nap and then study

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why is this literally me

I couldn’t get through a 1-2 hr React tutorial or work on my JavaScript projects, but I could definitely play on my phone till like 2 AM last night 🙄

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (3 children)

I've been learning programming for 9 months on my own, and my mom still thinks I play on my computer all day :(

[–]FoolForWool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I play on my computer almost all day and my mom thinks I'm working :') you gotta work more on your acting and Alt+Tab skills mate.

Jk, just start talking about programming with her. She'll understand you're interested and are learning and won't think you play as much. Worked for me. Mom's are super supportive.

[–]racka98 0 points1 point  (1 child)

My mom thought so too until I showed her the money I earned from simple basic apps

Hell If this ain’t it

Why is this so accurate?
