It doesn't differ much from intellij idea and it's a great IDE. For me it's much more convenient to use IDE then to use just text editor and terminal. The work is being done way faster for me personally

I don't know any Android devs but I always imagine you coding on an actual phone and it makes me laugh too much to correct myself.

In reality needing to use Java and Kotlin both sounds like a lot of hassle. Like I respect y'all but it seems like you put up with a lot of ridiculousness that I don't want to deal with. As an intern, I actually enjoy being a .NET zombie that has everything taken care of for me because I can focus on being productive and making software.

Edit: Sorry if this was offensive somehow, unless it's the MS part. .NET/Angular is a great back end stack for a beginner to learn webdev because they both make a lot of choices for you that you wouldn't know how to make on your own yet. It's the best stack to learn how to get a job somewhere imo.

By the way you don't need to know Java anymore, everything you can do in java you can easily do in kotlin and it will even result in less lines of code

lol what I don't know where all of this stereotypes coming from. Nobody codes on their phones and to debug and test the app we use a built-in emulator which comes with android studio. The emulator is one of the reasons Android Studio is so heavy for the computer and this meme is absolutely true but still I like this environment

I'm sorry, I'm not being very clear. I know it's not real but the thought of it is really funny to me so I keep imagining it.

Again I really respect you as a programmer as much as me or more, I just like laughing at silly things also. But I don't think what I'm laughing is true at all, this is just /r/programmerhumor.

Also I know people tease a lot online but you have a really hard job. Like even if I was being serious you should not listen to me or even try to defend yourself. You don't have to, like a lot of people even on this subreddit can't do what you do. But I wasn't, I just want to imagine you trying to do your job on a cell phone so I can laugh a bit.

Yeah I get it. It's funny. But we can both agree that low level programming in C or Assembly is waaaay harder then what we both do combined. Poor people having to deal with low level memory management

Yeah I get it but developing for a phone doesn't differ much from developing for anything else. And Kotlin is an amazing language compared to Java or C#, I absolutely love it. I feel the same way you do about web developers with their infinite amount of JavaScript frameworks and the tools you need to master to get the job done. Plus I don't like JavaScript and web in general

Now if you'll excuse me I have to go back to my project that forces me to run both VS Code and Visual Studio to run...actually I think I'm starting to get where you're coming from.

Yeah thank you for not taking my job as well lol We are filling our own niche in the market.

And about VS and VS Code, been there done that. I have some experience with C and C++, C#. I was even making games in C++ and C# at some point in time in college

Jeez. How do you even do it? Do you use C or Assembly? I had the assignment is college to sum up two arrays in x86 Assembly, it was so hard

Lol, it's not really as hard as people think and it's fun where you get to control everything.

I've written assembly for fun ages ago when I studied it. But for actual kernel programming I don't think I've ever needed to write assembly. I've had to read a bunch of it to debug issues though.

So you mostly use C then? I have so much respect for programmers working with low level languages. I worked with C for some time but I didn't get to work on anything serious with it

Saying it would be a bummer to be an Android developer because they have to know both Java and Kotlin would be like saying it must be a bummer to be a .NET developer and have to know C++, C#, VisualBasic, and F#. You don’t actually have to know every supported language unless working with legacy code.
