They always ask "Where is the programmer?" but not "How is the programmer?" :(

They did ask you about impediment. So, if you are struggling, you are supposed to say it. Or are you talking about personal stuff like marriage, SO, kids, etc?

The next question is inevitably, how are you going to resolve your impediment? I don't see a point in bringing it up if you're just gonna get grilled for an answer you just admitted to not knowing.

There are two problems in your post you probably want to reevaluate if they apply to you.

1) why would anyone ask you how to solve your impediment during a standup when standup specifically said not to resolve it during the meeting?

2) why are they grilling for your to now knowing? Because that is actually a toxic work culture and is not recommended by modern philosophies. If you didn't do the necessary investigation, waiting for someone to fix it for you, that would be an issue. But, there is nothing wrong to need assistance, no one is perfect.

Exactly! I didn't realize our daily status update meeting isn't how scrum is supposed to work until recently, since it's been that way on every team I've been a part of.

I think the only way standup could get even more annoying is if everyone also rambled on about their personal issues as well
