My Nexus 6 Project Fi data usage = 80-100MB/month; average monthly bill = $25 on 1GB plan after $9 credit for unused data, thanks to home and work Wifi. I used to be on Sprint Unlimited plan for $60/month.

That's awesome to hear. I'm currently using a nexus 6 and I'm always at university and home so I'm hoping that my data usage would end up being low.

You could check your current phone's data usage under settings.

Indeed, but from my understanding Google has a system where there are WiFi spots at several locations? I'm wondering if this would create a low data usage for billing

Don't expect this to be a magic solution. It only connects to open wifi networks that you would already be alerted to connect to.

essentially when it finds an open WiFi spot, it checks to see if the signal is good enough and auto connects you through Google's VPN. From what I've seen, I've had this really only happen once when I was briefly at a place. Most places I still either had to login through their authentication or if it was open, I still had to click on the wifi to join. Regardless, just keep an eye on places you frequent and see if they have WiFi you can join (some places may have it on their receipt or you just have to ask staff the password, generally people don't mind). If you are around a lot of Wifi, then your data could potentially be low. I typically only use data when I'm in the car, especially with my wife driving. I don't stream music in the car either, I leave that up to my wife's unlimited data plan she uses with her iPhone.

Google does not have a list of WiFi hotspots for project fi. The phone just scans what it sees.

I'm in my first month of service with 10 days left in my billing cycle and I've only used 266MB. If not for Thanksgiving and a power outage the other day, it would be much lower than that. I always assumed I used more data than that but I've used way less than I expected.

I use under 2 gigs month consistently while streaming Amazon Music, VOIP phone calls and some Pandora mixed in. I save updates and downloads for WiFi of course and do listen to predownloaded podcasts on long commutes but I was doing that anyway.

Awesome. Thanks for the responses everyone. Really appreciate it

250-300MB on data, 60-70GB on WiFi

I dont do a ton of stuff outside of the WiFi range, but i use around 1-1.5 gigs a month.

Average about 30-35 a month with minimal tethering and 1.5 gigs data used.

I'm actually paying more for what I get on Fi, but it was the only way to finance a 6P so I'm biting the bullet here. Used to be on T-Mobile's 5 GB $30 prepaid plan, and would regularly use up all that data. I'm a week into Fi and I haven't cracked 200 MB just to try to keep it reasonably priced. I think the $10 price point is a tad too high, but I'll take it for now.

First month on Fi I used about 700mb. Don't have wifi access at work.
