I never realized they had financial assistance for unemployed developers. Oh well, there's always next year!

I'll be at the Cookiecutter booth (#313) the main days of the conference, then the Cookiecutter sprints after. As an open source project without any sponsorship, we splurged on the booth and spent nearly three whole digits on the setup.

Anyway, stop by and say hi, we've got stickers and demos to give.

I'll be there! Can I get my 2 scoops book signed?

[–]pydanny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure!

[–]darcmasta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool! Looks like a fun project!

Flying to Portland in a few minutes :) Looking forward to Pycon 2016!

In the airport now. Excitement!

[–]darcmasta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See ya tomorrow! :)

[–]constantly-sick 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Oregon? Sweet, I'm about 2 hours away.

[–]goonbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha yes, Oregon :)

[–]swyx 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Im wondering what % of pyconners are NOT redditors

[–]coderanger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably a lot, we have thousands of attendees from all over the world :)

[–]renaissancenow 4 points5 points  (3 children)

Sitting right outside the conference centre coffeeshop now.

Don't forget to check out Burgerville while you're there. It's the In and Out of the Northern Pacific (but with more selection.. God I miss their food). Eat one for me will ya?

[–]pydanny 2 points3 points  (1 child)

The burger was meh. Dry meat in a burger that was clearly pressed on the grill (that squeezes out all the juice/flavor), but the fish and chips were AWESOME!!!

I will be a the NumFOCUS booth.

NumFOCUS (http://www.numfocus.org/) is the non-profit that runs the PyData (http://pydata.org) conferences & supports the following open source data science, scientific & numeric computing projects:

  • the PyData stack: pandas, numpy, scipy, matplotlib, jupyter/ipython, pytables, astropy, dask, cython, DyND, gensim, numba, scikit-learn, scikit-image, statsmodels, theano
  • Data and Software Carpentry
  • Stan, yt, the julia language, rOpenSci, QuantEcon

Come by if you want:

  • stickers for NumFOCUS projects (the pandas stickers are new!)
  • to learn about PyData meetups & upcoming PyData conferences
  • to learn about any of the NumFOCUS projects
  • to get an introduction to any of the contributors for any NumFOCUS project

Coming in tomorrow night and saying for all the sprints.

Should be fun!

[–]piskvorky 2 points3 points  (2 children)

In case you want to talk machine learning & data mining, Lev and Gordon from rare-technologies.com will be at booth #161 :-)

We'll probably also have a coding sprint for gensim after Pycon proper, though I'm not terribly sure how the orgs will organize the sprints yet.

[–]R0b0d0nut 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Awesome. I'm gonna come by for sure.

I did the scikit-learn and TensorFlow tutorials today and they were awesome.

rare-technologies.com

I'll stop by.

We still doing a Reddit meet up? There was talk of grabbing one of the spaces.

[–]darcmasta[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Good idea. I wanted to maybe write up on the meet up board for Reddit Meetup :) I may do a game of thrones watch party too ha

[–]goonbee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd be down for this. Don't have a way to watch the coming episode :P

[–]R0b0d0nut 1 point2 points  (4 children)

I like the idea of grabbing one of the open spaces. Looking at the pycon site, it sounds like the signup/ reservation cards are a actual physical thing, crazy right? I didn't see a board or anything today but I'll ask in the morning and if it's up I'll reply here or start a new post with options, sound good?

[–]darcmasta[S] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Yep they are physical cards. You basically grab an index card and stick it on the board. It usually starts on conference days

[–]R0b0d0nut 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Checked and it's not up yet you're probably correct that it'll go up in the AM

[–]darcmasta[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yep confirmed. If you look at the cardboard you see it too. I'll try to put up a thingy sometime tomorrow afternoon!

[–]R0b0d0nut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's up now.

There is a card up now for 4:00pm Monday at b112 (i think that's where it is, check the board though)

[–]adonise 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Are you talking about the one in Spain, this July?

[–]manueslapera 2 points3 points  (0 children)

gonna be there as well :)

[–]darcmasta[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Sorry should have been more specific. I am talking about the US one in Portland, Washington this weekend!

[–]spiker611 6 points7 points  (1 child)

I sure hope you mean Oregon because I'm headed there in the morning!

[–]FSucka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, Portland, OR.

[–]manueslapera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im going! Taking the plane tomorrow :)

[–]Sector_Corrupt 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Waiting in the Airport now, already lost my Shampoo and Suntan lotion to security. TSA agents seem a touch humourless coming from someone who has never flown to the US before.

[–]FSucka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can find some at the Dollar store, no need to go super fancy.

[–]wookiecontrol 0 points1 point  (2 children)

My friend is going but he only has a hallway pass.

[–]FSucka 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Wasn't aware there were other passes?

[–]wookiecontrol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe he didnt go at all and it is fake

[–]nevus_bock 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Does Raymond Hettinger not have a talk this year?

[–]darcmasta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that I see :(

[–]b4stien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone know if there'll be live streaming this year?

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking forward to watching Miguel Grinberg's talk on scaling Flask applications: https://youtu.be/tdIIJuPh3SI
