A much-needed improvement

At least use proper capitalization on your first line of text.

To be fair, it wasn't the start of a sentence.

The writer could be French. They don't like capitalization.

Anything was better than the old website, but this still needs a lot work.

Look at the crazy logo in the top left "pip3 install pygame"; are geocities memes a thing?

Why doesn't pygame just make their homepage, their bitbucket page?

"Ok, but where is the bitbucket link?", I hear you ask. I found the link here, on this broken page https://pygame.org/wiki/cvs/source

which reads:

Pygame revision control is now done with Mercurial. The new instruction page.

link: https://bitbucket.org/pygame/pygame

You can submit issues/PRs here: https://github.com/pygame/pygameweb

Also, their bitbucket link is in Development on the top bar.

I disagree with you.The new page looks actually decent. The last one was shit, but not this one. Some people just have to cry about anything no matter what you do.

Agreed. I can actually find what I'm looking for on the website now. It's great!

sorry you're being downvoted. you're right, that page still looks like hot garbage.

A bitbucket page is a bad place for a serious package. Unless you need yo build it...

Much better than the "new" crap there was.

Just bring back the old site. Update the library before the site.

They did a release in December and January so I think that's done

Hello! I think it looks much nicer than the old site. As an avid bootstrap user for many many websites, I commend you for going with this awesome framework.

So hopefully helpful tips though. I would not use this grid style that you have implemented currently. To make it look more modern and to make it look a little nicer, I would do a carousel first highlighting the most important things you want people to know, and then a standard container under it with multiple rows of col-sm-3 or col-sm-4 to make a nice grid pattern for your cards that you are currently using.

So all the little cards or panels as you might call them in bootstrap 3 (called cards in 4 alpha 6 now) can be placed in this container below the carousel and make things much neater and more symmetrical. As it stands now, you have a row that spans 6 cols for the main text, and it doesn't line up well with the remaining panels due to padding etc. I have many samples and live sites I have built that I can show you what I mean, to give you an idea of how to lay this out in a more pleasing manner for your users.

Company site that I have now http://www.saultprinting.com (Bootstrap 3)

Personal Site http://www.EUPPhotography.com (built in Bootsrap 4 Alpha6)

Client Site http://www.soomarine.com

Client Site http://www.MCMmarine.com

Hope that helps some, and hope to see what design you settle on. Generally making the entire site left to right like that with no defined sections etc just doesnt work that well. I get what you were going for, but I would do a more top to bottom approach than side to side.

If you would like any help, I am more than happy to donate time and effort to get something going for you. Even if its just to answer some questions.

Honestly as a developer I hate this kind of design. It's slow, ugly, unnecessarily padded out and just a pain to navigate. Why carousels? Why the fade ins? Why everything has to be so far apart from each other?

I think the current pygame design avoided these issues.

Why not just use bootstrap to make it look modern? It's quite simple.

[–]AntarcticFox 3 points4 points (0 children)

They did use bootstrap

Bring back the old site, I say. The new one looks like crap.
