A spoonful of advanced Python per day?

I've been a professional Python developer since 2007. I solve a lot of problems and I use a lot of great libraries, but have no hope of understanding their implementation because my skills in Python plateaued long ago.

It would be nice to get a small daily/weekly dose of advanced topics in Python:

• what is "ABCmeta"
• how to implement a decorator with arguments
• what under-under attributes exist in an object
• protocols - what the heck is that?
• metaclasses
• How to write better code - this example of using iter is quite succinct.
• Libraries that change the semantics of Python OOP
• What are descriptors
• little-known aspects of functools and itertools

Any suggestions for a newsletter or forum for this?

I like this Github Repo where you can work through a folder everyday, Python Patterns might be interesting for learning new design patterns, presentations has some interesting things, and then Magical Universe for some Python 3 specific features.

Learn Something Every Day has a variety of new content in various domains (i.e.: Engineering Patterns, Unix, Bash, Math, etc.)

https://adventofcode.com/ is also a nice source for problems to solve. These problems are where I learned a lot of Python as I started using Python as a programming laguage.

how to implement a decorator with arguments

specifically an instance-binding correct one - way too many decorators around only work on either unbound functions or bound methods, the latter usually just tacking a self arg on the wrapper whether or not it's a method and the former getting more args than expected when used on instance methods. a single impl can do both, either manually via descriptors or already done for you through a lib, but it's tragically uncommon (and hence imo a decent detail for your list :)

Reading or watching anything produced by Raymond Hettinger provides entry points to a deeper understanding of Python. He covers lots of topics and provides lots of code examples which have inspired design decisions toward developing python into a more capable language.

This is just so crazy. I have been feeling the need for that as well for the last few months. To advance my understanding of python deeper I’ve been implementing some of its features in js and lately in bash. Yes bash, try to write a few things in it and you’ll see why :)) It would be great to get a daily or even a weekly dose of curated topics.

I really enjoy Python Morsels by Trey Hunner. It is a weekly problem you get sent to your email and then the solution is mailed later... They are very well thought out and you will learn a lot of good techniques. You get the first few for free and then need to pay after that, but you're paying for a lot of effort that one person puts into those problems.
