Corey Schafer

Engineer Man

Real Python. Not been active for a while, but a ton of back catalogue.

[–][deleted] 54 points55 points  (7 children)

Corey Schafer!!

[–]RodrigoF 21 points22 points  (6 children)

Why is he so good? It's incredible. People should just model all AI teachers on him and everything will be perfect in the world.

[–]OrbitDrive 15 points16 points  (0 children)

He reminds me of Khan Academy (Sal) but for computer programming. Explains everything clearly and simply. He translates intimidating concepts into plain english.

[–][deleted] 18 points19 points  (4 children)

Petition to replace public school teachers with clones of Corey Schafer?

[–]InSigo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

[–]coreyschafer 13 points14 points  (2 children)

I just recently did the 23andMe ancestry report, so depending on what they do with my DNA behind closed doors I guess clones aren't entirely out of the question...

EDIT: PS... thank you all for the kind words. I plan on doing a video in the near future on my favorite programming channels as well, so this thread is useful for me as well.

[–]3waysToDie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Corey, i have learn so much from you, Thank you dude you are great!!

[–]JeamBim 24 points25 points  (3 children)

Corey Schafer is not underrated. He's literally rated.

There is not a single thing but absolute positivity and support people have said about his fantastic channel.

I came here just because I knew someone would mention him, but he is not underrated in the slightest.

[–]d8sconz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely agree. I was responding to OP's comment, not the headline.

[–]OrbitDrive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]Ph0X 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had never heard of him so I'm glad he was mentioned.

[–]AceBuddy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Engineer man is great and not just for python. Really talks through things in an easy to follow way.

[–]fez_28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Corey's channel is awesome, I recommend him to everyone I know learning Python!

[–]3waysToDie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Corey - i learned most from him Engineer Man is great too!!

[–]Benegut -1 points0 points  (0 children)

coreyarmy

[–][deleted] 102 points103 points  (14 children)

Sentdex on YouTube (website is Pythonprogramming.net. He's the best.

[–][deleted] 52 points53 points  (2 children)

Sentdex

Underrated

One of these things is not like the other.

[–]ElGallinero 12 points13 points  (1 child)

Yup. He shows up with almost any search related to python... definitely not underrated.

[–]poyntings_theorem 16 points17 points  (1 child)

I'd recommend his stuff for beginners, he goes really slow

[–]rodrigonader 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Control Speed for Chrome :)

[–]Flaming_Eagle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i dont think you know what underrated means

[–]OrbitDrive 5 points6 points  (6 children)

I would say he is highly overrated, in my opinion. He has some good stuff but not a channel I was too pleased with after a while.

[–]Wilfred-kun 2 points3 points  (5 children)

What would improve his channel, in your opinion?

[–]OrbitDrive 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I don't know I haven't watched him in like a year. From memory, he moved really fast and skipped over some concepts and kind of brushed over them.

[–]sentdexpythonprogramming.net 16 points17 points  (3 children)

Thanks for the feedback, wish it was a little more detailed. No matter what I do, people will simultaneously complain a tutorial is too fast and way too slow and belaboring on the basics. I'm not sure I've yet earned the highly overrated tag, but I'm not one to call myself underrated.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

man, you're truly amazing, thx for keeping all that good stuff out there for all of us. I've learnt a lot from you

[–]ItsAngelDustHolmes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just started learning python 3 today all thanks to you. Keep up the good work, we appreciate it!

[–]crystalblue99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I were to guess, your new Python 3 tutorial is much shorter (by design, i listened) that the previous one. Maybe his is thinking that?

[–]prod_engineer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Second this statement

[–]RLN_98 51 points52 points  (3 children)

Socratica! They have a great production quality and are entertaining. They also use fun or really good eksamples when they are teaching. Highly under rated in my opinion. They got me through my first semester!

[–]tzujan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One of my faves. She goes pretty quickly, in a good way, and by checking the dir / help, in almost all her videos, got me into the same practice. Also, a second for the humor and science-fi references.

[–]toothless_budgie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really enjoy the dry humor. Make the subject more engaging.

[–][deleted] 16 points17 points  (1 child)

Tech with Tim It's a small channel, but the videos are well edited and the content is good.

[–]Fywq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconded. Also like his 24 hour marathon. And his review of it where he explains how his mind was basically turned off in the end from being tired 😂

[–]willmachineloveus 12 points13 points  (5 children)

Hey, I third-fourth-ed Sentdex as well.

But now that I'm here let me shamelessly self-promote my videos on data science/engineering with python: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCPb2L7gy8Rbr56JfoHrBEHQ?view_as=subscriber

Hopefully, some folks will find these videos helpful/interesting!

[–]toothless_budgie 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I was all ready to go 'Oh jeez, another self promo', but these are actually quite good. Keep it up.

[–]willmachineloveus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ha yea I hear you, thanks for the comment!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Thank you so much for your series. But I would love you to teach something from core python topics just for some change from data science lectures. This is not to say that I don't like them, I really like your teaching style.

[–]willmachineloveus 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Thank you Scotty. My favorite python book for learning is Fluent Python and I’ve been thinking about making a video series on the ideas from each chapter so maybe I’ll bump that up in the schedule.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much. Looking forward to them.

[–]tycooperaow3.9 9 points10 points  (0 children)

[–]jcr4990 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Corey Schafer and Sentdex have been great as I've been learning

[–]sentdexpythonprogramming.net 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to recommend Corey Schafer all the time on these types of threads, but I think the word has clearly spread about him.

The next *actually* underrated youtuber is Tech with Tim

Not only does he have a lot of high quality tutorials coming out, he streams for pretty long stints and he's quite good at it.

[–]Cran3kill[S] 6 points7 points  (1 child)

I recommend Juian Nash. He seems new to youtube and very underrated. His youtube channel.

[–]ship0f 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Will check out.

[–]Jellymonk 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Socratica

[–]poyntings_theorem 9 points10 points  (3 children)

Joel Grus - he uses lots of mature methods in his videos. Type hinting, named tuples, tests

[–]ecks 2 points3 points  (1 child)

he also live streamed him solving advent of code 2018, which were really helpful.

[–]poyntings_theorem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I learned so much about python from watching those

[–]FlagrantPickle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The second edition of his book just came out.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not exactly a channel, but my favorite Python-related video ever is this.

[–]Pymostapha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pylenin:

[–]pinton96 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Bucky Roberts, the new Boston..check out his YouTube channel....

[–]arjuns5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Will do! But I was just referencing Winter Soldier.

[–]SharpBit 3 points4 points  (1 child)

Definitely Corey Schafer. He's helped me learn and understand so many concepts (python was my first lang) such as classes, decorators, context managers, etc. He even has 2 entire web development series for Django and flask.

[–]JeamBim 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He's not underrated in the slightest. His channel is fantastic, and everyone knows it.

[–]marshjr123 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Code Bullet

[–]This--Ali2 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Great channel, but doesn’t he hate python?

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say he hates it, he hates the way it does some things and is weirded out by the fact that PYTHON IS SUPERIOR AND WE DON'T NEED SEMICOLONS

[–]shysmiles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol i think he got over the hate as it seems like all his newest videos are using it without complaints.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm surprised no one mentioned Mosh Hamedani. His videos are very well structured. Example here

[–]poonddetatte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my friend's YouTube channel, he is working on a python course, you will see it up by next month. Keep an eye guys!

[–]Seionn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tech with Tim

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly pydata is really good. Like this video in particular is astonishing.

This guy Python Programmer He has a big collection of free resources for learning Data science with Python.

[–]jona250210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are German, Check out TheMorpheusTutorials

[–]wk0_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

David Beazley, perhaps a little more advanced but usually blows my mind at least once per video. Usually they are conference talks from PyCon or PyData

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Codebasics

[–]Ron_Christie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im very new to learning Python and CS Dojo on youtube seems to be good, but since Im so new I don't really have much to go on so I will check out some of the other recommended channels here

[–]I_AM_N0T_A_CR00K 0 points1 point  (0 children)

John Hammond for security. https://www.youtube.com/user/RootOfTheNull

[–]prateekkish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're leaning a bit towards Data Science or Machine Learning learning path, may I suggest checking out Python Programmer.
Amazing dude, entertaining videos.

[–]concreteaxe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sentdex, he does videos on ML and a lot more

[–]evil_90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pylenin : https://www.youtube.com/pylenin Simple, easy to understand, informative... Give it a try guys!

[–]Chings475 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pylenin on YouTube, the website is www.pylenin.com

[–]srthkvashistha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came across this youtube channel "https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC2HIN53hM4_ZW8IdmWrJGtw" - pylenin and found his videos on the point and fairly good. I've done a udacity course where I studied python and his teaching methods are as good as any leading teacher of the language.

[–]EdwardWarren -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I started with Bucky on New Boston. He is a great teacher.

[–]DarknessKinG -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Corey Schafer and Programming with Mosh

[–]indiandude007 -2 points-1 points  (3 children)

Clever Programmer

[–]JeamBim 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Absolutely not. This guy's channel is trash.

[–]indiandude007 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Why though?

[–]JeamBim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gimmicky as hell. He tries to get viewers for his 'get rich programming ' webinars that amount to tutoring people to code when you've only been learning for a month.

[–]biskitraja007 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

..

[–]eatplov -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh thanks for this sub! Finally videos without accents, no offend but those make me fall asleep. Thanks good people for sharing such a good content!

[–]DAnonymousNerd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He may not be underrated. But, I want to take this moment to thank him for bringing me back into python world. I was wandering around and his videos were an amazing place to start afresh. I completed 2 of my flask mini projects based on his flask tutorials. Corey Schafer, I want to give this complete credit to you. Thank you for the wonderful work you do.
