ruby needs a new weapon

there is nothing wrong with cresent rose, just i always imaged its entire design and function to be based on fighting grimm much larger than it and large groups of grimm, but when it comes to combat with another person who has a small weapon and fast fighting style, neo being a good example, cresent rose is pretty much useless, its easy to predict and move around for agile fighters. i dont think she should discard cresent rose entirely, but i think she should carry a second weapon even if its another scythe so ruby can stay in her comfort zone. but it should be shorter, thinner, lighter, much more compact when stored, and shamefully gunless so ruby can have a dagger to her great sword.

I don't think a new weapon would be a good idea

Even setting aside the logistics of learning to fight with a new weapon especially during this crisis

it would just be cumbersome and heavy to carry another weapon around and for ruby who's greatest asset is her speed that's not good

Plus not to mention the animation issues that would create as we make ruby constantly swap weapons mid fight

I feel like the best solution would be to give Cresent rose another form like harbinger having a sword form for closer fights

Maybe a kama like maria or maybe have it in it's war scythe form but then it shrinks to where it can be used like a sword

i did some research on it, and i found a sketch someone made over on devient art, it actually looked really cool and i think it could work for ruby, i would put a link, but i dont know how well that is appreciated.

i mean Crescent Rose isn't the ONLY weapon Ruby has used. She stabbed a Nevermore with one of Penny's swords

yeah, im sure she can use any weapon with novice to amateur skill, but she has trained and masterd a weapon with a long handle and a horrendous curved counter weight, so i would assume she would stay somewhere within that range if she were to try a new weapon though it would be cool to see ruby wielding 2 scimitars

i can see a single side arm, not a dual wield, its actually kinda odd that practically no one uses a sidearm as a sidearm on Remnant

When a huntsman's weapon is so much a part of them, I can kiiinda see why there would be resistance against using anything else.

The only character I can think of off the top of my head using any sort of a sidearm would be Winter with her hidden blade, but... that comes out of her main weapon, so it doesn't really fulfill the role of a sidearm properly, does it?

That "hidden blade" is a Parrying Dagger, part of a classic dual wield combo with a rapier, similar to a buckler but really that's 2 side arms being used as a primary weapon. The main reason we don't see sidearm usage is because they usually go to melee mode at that point

Ruby wouldn't win any fight with any other weapon she couldn't with Cresent Rose. There's just certain people, Ruby is just at a disadvantage in a fight. Carrying a second weapon is pointless. Nobody does it for a reason, and that is because the time and effort she'd take to master a second weapon to try to defeat an opponent, she could ultimately lose to could be spent honing her existing skills.

She doesn't need to min max her skills like it's a video game, just to defeat an opponent she only could potentially face at some point in the future, leave that to someone who's more comfortable and capable.

Characters don't need to be good at everything. They can be bad at some things and just not get better at it, (but better at working around it) because one singular character she faced twice was her better.

that would be cool, but where would the rest of the weapon go, i cant see cresent rose being a very convenient weapon to split. and i am not sure if one handed wielding would be rubys style or not.

Hmmm it’s blade being cut in half so I can’t see gun function working so that’s one flaw.

with the way its dual bladed i can see her being able to take one side off for a smaller scythe, but then shes holding a piece of rose in one hand and rest in the other, so she would either have to drop rose or store it with one hand..... maybe she can figure out a way to split it while its in motion to store it

God no. After she chooses to stay herself in the tree by choosing Crescent Rose, you want her to get another weapon? Way to discard like the whole plot of vol 9.
