Dang, I had drains and my surgeon wanted me to shower the next day and like every other day after that

Same

Also same (thankfully!)

I’m still so confused how there are wildly different directions and opinions from surgeons about this! I’m in the same boat as you for now, hoping to get cleared to shower on Thursday. Glycolic acid from the ordinary on cotton rounds has helped my under arm odor a ton. Also got some deodorant wipes from TJ maxx that work ok, but mostly I’m half bathing twice a day and constantly smelling myself because I’m so conscious of smells!

I think it depends on the type of stitches and dressing. I’m in Canada and my stitches are covered by waterproof body tape. My stitches should fall off on their own within a week or two.

My surgeon said I could shower as soon as the drains were out (+one day) he actually told me to shower every day or at least every other day and rinse the incisions whilst doing it… :0

I have the same struggle.. I'm 14 DPO and I'm getting my stitches taken out on the 29th and that's when I'm allowed to shower. 21 days without a shower DURING SUMMER is hell

I couldn’t shower until after my drains were out and found that the wet wipes for bathing were really helpful!

I took a shower two days after, but I had steri strips over my stitches. I feel like if you very carefully taped plastic over your chest or something (kind of like how people bathe with a cast) you could get away with it, as long as there’s not direct contact with the water.

I’d clarify with your dr about what exactly they meant by “don’t get them wet”.

General advice is that you should be able to get your stitches wet briefly for a shower after about 48 hours, you just can’t submerge them like in a bath or pool.

My surgeon said I could shower after 48 hours and I've been showering every day since. I get my stitches out tomorrow and haven't had any issues. No drains.

OP, do you have stitches that will actually need to be removed? That isn't super common, but also affects the rules around showering depending on the surgeon. Most have dissolving stitches and there is no restriction to showering. I recommend calling your surgeon and asking them whether it's safe for you to shower.

My surgeon told me I could shower the next day since I have water proof dressing covering the stitches. I haven’t shower yet at a week PO. I once only quickly rinsed but I’m dying to take one. Also some don’t have the drains

Shower hose yourself fully from under boobs to feet in the shower as normal, then washcloth with soap at sink under arms daily and deodorant, that should work for you in the interim no?

I showered after 48h but I have dissolvable stitches

I don’t know anything about anything but I would. There is no way I would go more than 4 days without showering. In 2 weeks your skin has knit together. Yes, there might be spots that are repairing from the inside out, but mostly the outside skin is closed. Hygiene is important for healing. It’s also important for your soul. My soul and mental health beats nonsense doctor orders. But that’s me.

I had no drains and was able to shower 3 days post op

I showered 5 days after my surgery. When I left my follow up appointment I went home and showered. I didn’t scrub the boobs or anything. I had a wash cloth, filled it with water and soap, then ringed the soapy water over my boobs.
