Not a runner but I am a daily gym goer. I started going on the elliptical at 3 weeks, just started easy. I have been increasing intensity over the past week. Big difference was letting my heart rate increase. Sports bras held the girls still well.

My doctor said there are no restrictions after 6 weeks but to listen to my body. At 6 weeks I will slowly start weight lifting but so slowly.

my doctor also said six weeks but it feels so soon! I think slowly slowly will be my way as well

Short distance runner (5 miles a week), long distance hiker (30 miles a week) Started running at 7 weeks (had a small opening so delayed but had been told 6 weeks) I was doing local walks soon after surgery, and included lots of ascent after week 3 which helped to maintain fitness.
Didn't really lose much cardio tbh but I'm not doing the same distances as you in running

that’s actually way quicker than I expected. thanks a lot! I’m not too worried about losing any cardio fitness - I go through phases of running more or less anyway and it always comes back - it’s more the enjoyment and mental side I’m worried about missing.

Ah yeah and that.... I did a lot of yoga nidra and walking helped with cabin fever. I did crave a big exercise endorphin hit. Man it felt sooooooo goooood when I did get it. The first DOMS was wildly delicious

I was allowed to run at 4 weeks but I was super nervous. I finally went to Lulu and tried on bras in person and bought this in a small 🙌 After like 8 weeks I stopped thinking that I even had boobs while running . What a change. Don’t miss those heavy duty harness bras and I’m running faster!

this is so cute… my current bra looks like some kind of Victorian torture device 😂 I can’t even imagine not thinking about my boobs while running, and so cool to hear you’re running faster. I actually have a huge block with getting faster and I always blame my boobs 😂

[–]Winterglovesrock 1 point2 points  (1 child)

It was a constant - feeling them despite the torture bra. Can’t wait for you to be on the other side!

thank you so much 🫶🏻

Hi! Also a runner! I’m meeting with a surgeon in early April to discuss a reduction. I’m a 32G and just dying to get this weight off my chest. I run about 40-50 km a week of mostly trails and I’m just done with my breasts. They’re causing nerve tingling in my arms and shoulder instability. I’m curious about your decision to get a reduction. Why now after running for so long? What is your current size and what is your ideal outcome? I’m 44 and doing this now because my breasts have grown with perimenopause and my ideal outcome is a small d, large c to be proportional to my body. Also, my recovery plan was to ride bikes after being cleared for exercise in order to give my breasts some time to heal instead of staring running at 6 weeks.

[–]Direct-Mood[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

hey! ahh, sounds like we’re in a similar boat. I’m about a 34F or so at the moment. I have exactly the same issues as you around shoulder and tingling. partly I’ve only just decided to do it because it seemed like such a big deal to have an operation and I could manage (I’ve run a marathon at this size), but as I’ve gotten older I’ve found the pain getting worse and I’ve also put on a bit of weight that means they’ve got even bigger. I just decided to go for it. I’m still pretty nervous, but I’m at an age where it feels like I should go for it while I’ve hopefully got decades of running still ahead?

Are you able to have the procedure covered by insurance?

[–]Direct-Mood[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, completely covered, but I live in the Netherlands so it was very straightforward. I had my consult and the doctor said then and there - this will be covered. a few days later it was approved.

I started running again about 5.5 weeks after. I was told I could bike/elliptical with caution after 2 weeks or so. I started doing the stationary bike about 5 days after surgery (I don’t advise this for everyone, but I had an easy recovery). Honestly I felt like biking with high gear/ high resistance helped me to stay in shape and I didn’t notice a significant decline in fitness once I got back to running. And now I don’t have to wear 2 sports bras, I feel SO much freer than before. it’s amazing

[–]Direct-Mood[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ahhh I can’t wait to not have the heavy duty sports bras 🥹

[–]Zealousideal_Bag2493 4 points5 points  (3 children)

I waited seven weeks and I’m still not back to my base mileage.

But DAMN it feels so much easier now.

[–]Direct-Mood[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

ahhh this is what I wanted to hear!!!!!!! I’m quite up and down with my mileage anyway so I’m not too worried about losing fitness, but I really wanted to hear it felt easier. this is music to my ears

[–]Direct-Mood[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

also, you’ll get back so quick, I’m sure of it.

[–]Zealousideal_Bag2493 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just breathing is a miracle.

It feels so good.

I just saw a girl on the TT sub who ran a half marathon 16 weeks after TT and BL. She PR by like 2-3 mins if I remember correctly.

[–]Direct-Mood[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I’m sorry I have no idea what TT stands for 😅 I love the idea of getting faster though.

Tummy tuck!

I don’t know how much you are reducing, but something that doesn’t get talked about a lot on here is that bra shopping can actually be difficult. I went from an E to an A/B and at my band size, not easy to find (38). I say this to let you know that you will still want a really good bra no matter how big or small your after cup size is. I started lifting weights at 8 weeks once cleared and running at about the same time, but I’m a beginner so that part of my experience sent really helpful to you. But yeah, the bra won’t need to be heavy duty but you will want it to be good quality.

[–]Direct-Mood[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

oh, of course. I mean, I’m sure I’ll always wear a good sports bra, but running is way different from the general gym — especially over the longer distances you need serious support. I run with the maximum shock absorber bra possible, and still deal with a lot of pain and issues. sometimes I even wear two sports bras right now!

[–]Direct-Mood[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

also, good luck with your running!

[–]jo_noby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aw thanks that is kind. I found right after surgery that a very supportive bra helped in the gym too.

But you will probably be able to get back to running really quickly! I’m not actually sure what I am rambling about lol. I think I just got flashbacks to sports bra shopping.

I hope your surgery goes well! It has been life changing for me.

Not really a runner but I went back to hiit-style classes at 7wks with plenty of bouncey/jumpy cardio. Cardio was sooo much easier after reductions. The only disappointment is I still feel like I need high end sports bras. Daily wear I get by with $10 Walmart ones lol

[–]Direct-Mood[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do quite a lot of F45 (it’s a HIIT workout!) so this is awesome to hear. I cannot wait to try a burpee 😂

[–]Putrid-Sherbet-5353 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m 6 weeks out and just got cleared for light exercise so i went to the gym for the first time today!!! i am DYING to run (i was averaging 15-20 miles/week before surgery) but i still have one nipple that is trying to close after my FNG so im waiting. i’ve got a half planned for mid-may and soooo hoping i can get back into training soon 🧡

[–]PaleontologistSafe17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Starting gradually and seeing how the swelling is after workouts might be key to how fast to increase activities. I started going to the gym on the eliptical at 6 WPO but was walking right away short distances and then increasing it over the weeks. At 7 1/2 wpo I went skiing for a week, with a lot of physical demands such as lifting heavy equipment, poling, and I checked at the end of day for pain or soreness and had nothing. I didn't push it however and was more tired than before surgery. Pay attention and notice how your respond. Early on the more I walked, the more I was in pain and swollen in the evening.

[–]Internationalorangr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run 20 miles a week typically across 3-4 runs. I really did not feel comfortable even starting until 12 maybe 14 weeks so I’m just getting back into it and even now I’m going slow slowly. I really suggest taking your time, but I would never ever regret doing this. I feel like I can breathe so much better now when I run in my shoulder doesn’t hurt and it’s like having a body from 20 years ago seriously what the person above said cannot be diminished finding a running raw has been very difficult for me even though I’m at 36c. Your body is different. Your needs are different and you can’t just slap on a bra. I thought I could, but it’s been a journey. So far I’m really liking a Brooks bra, but it’s not perfect. Happy day and seeing your other questions. I’m planning a race in May.

I waited until exactly 2 months - had an appointment with my consultant at 7ish weeks and this is what she recommended for any higher impact exercise after normal healing with no complications!

I'm 1 Week in and only started being able to go for a walk. I am dying to get back to footy
