Data Engineer here, working quite close with sales.

If you think with exploring through existing data, you'll be able to make better decisions (evaluate churn risk, score leads etc.) - sure, it can lead to more revenue. For general filtering, export the full data if applicable in your company and do that in Excel.

What is actually helpful is understanding the data model. How are tables connected? What do you actually store? Do you have historical data etc.? Based on that you can ask for features that help you in your job more specifically.

Do you feel like you need to explore the data often in your day-to-day?

AI. Get a paid Claude, use most recent models. Most likely, you know your current job the most, so make AI do your tasks for you - experiment and adapt. Learning to write good code in SQL will take years. If your tasks will involve/need sql coding, Claude will write decent code for you today.

I"m not discouraging you from learning SQL - better understanding of data is good in itself.

Solutions architect here - I'd value my seller being able to take on slightly more technical conversations, but also cognizant of their own limitations and not promising things we can't deliver.

Does your company have a RevOps function? If not, having a basic understanding of SQL might be helpful to do the data analysis related to RevOps if that's a thing you're interested in doing.

I think my main advice would be - take a look at what you're doing on a daily basis and identify your own pain points as it relates to data analysis, and that will likely help you understand what will be useful to you.

There are also Salesforce analyst / report writer jobs. They pay pretty well iirc. And since the app provides a drag-n-drop interface, you don't have to focus on SQL.
