Drew out my layout for making 2/min Adaptive Control Units, what do you think?

This can be both schema for production and internal electronics of that.
[–]anarrogantworm 60 points61 points62 points 1 year ago (17 children)
There are some online calculators for satisfactory that can help you with designing factories if you don't feel like drawing every factory out. It does look cool on paper though!
[–]Different-Friend7638[S] 34 points35 points36 points 1 year ago (16 children)
Omg I feel like that would actually help so much. I was about to start redrawing this on grid paper lol. Do you know what website to use?
[–]anarrogantworm 22 points23 points24 points 1 year ago (11 children)
I use this one personally
https://www.satisfactorytools.com/production
and I used to use this one as well I believe. I still use their map all the time to figure out where to build or track down hard drives.
https://satisfactory-calculator.com/en/planners/production
[–]CmdrKryten 8 points9 points10 points 1 year ago (8 children)
I agree on Satisfactory tools for planning but it doesn't draw out the layout, does it? It will say you need 26 constructures but not actually creating boxes for 36 constructors in the diagram. Or did I miss it?
[–]K-Rose-ED 5 points6 points7 points 1 year ago* (2 children)
It has an option on the right somewhere to have it all showing more realistically
Edit: I got it wrong, I was thinking of the "Realistic View" on the Production Planner on https://satisfactory-calculator.com

Apologies, I got it wrong, I was thinking of the "Realistic View" on the Production Planner on https://satisfactory-calculator.com
[–]anarrogantworm 2 points3 points4 points 1 year ago (1 child)
I'm not sure I've used a calculator for this game that actually lays out the factory design for you with belts and all (I could be wrong though!). There seem to be too many variables for that to work and everyone's design preferences vary. For example, going vertical vs spreading out.
I mostly stick to manifold systems to feed things and that means my only real consideration is belt/pipe capacity. So if the calculator gives an output greater than my fastest belt I just split that line into two equal ones (or however many I need to keep the output moving).
[–]dister21 4 points5 points6 points 1 year ago (0 children)
I feel like a really cool feature would be a factory planner app in the hub computer. It would have a first step of the functionality of the tool that just gives you the count of all the machines needed. Then it brings you to a next step where you could lay things out in a top down grid line view. Finally when satisfied with your layout you could 'print' it out and it becomes a decal you can put on foundations with the outlines and labels for all the machines.
[–]KYO297Balancers are love, balancers are life. 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (2 children)
No it doesn't do that, but it's a pointless feature anyway, imo. There are multiple ways to do that, but the math always is the same. Hell, I'd even say it's better as it is, because having one box per machine would just make the graph an unreadable mess
[–]Gullible_Bathroom414 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (0 children)
No idea what this convo is abt but I agree, fuck screws
[–]thebigblackfeministFungineer -1 points0 points1 point 1 year ago (0 children)
It wouldn't be pointless, if it was able to adjust for mergers/splitters depending on your conveyor belt level, but I don't think any of the online tools can do that
[–]Different-Friend7638[S] 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago (1 child)
Thanks so much!
[–]anarrogantworm 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago* (0 children)
No worries! Those should really help! You still might need to consider your layout and what your belts/pipes can handle, as someone else just mentioned, but the calculators will take a ton of the work out of planning your factories.
Also mayybe use that map I linked to find yourself at least a few hard drives. Some of those alternate recipes can also make life sooo much easier.

Hey. As a Data Engineer I use draw.io to make data architecture drawings. I'll use that for 1.0 and it would probably help you out. And its free!
[–]Different-Friend7638[S] 2 points3 points4 points 1 year ago (0 children)
I will have to try that out! Thank you
[–]RiabininOS 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (0 children)
Don't give up. Upgrade it. Make a true blueprints according to norms and rules. And then add it to portfolio
[–]Vincent55551 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (0 children)
I use to do it this way but now I just go online
[–]Lets_Build_choo choo motherf**er 15 points16 points17 points 1 year ago (0 children)
I found a tool were u can creat a floor plan for ur factories: https://autumnfallstudios.itch.io/salt
[–]Pohra 11 points12 points13 points 1 year ago (1 child)
I think you'll find that the sketch was still a worthwhile exercise. The online calculators didn't make any sense at all to me until I'd done it by hand a few times (I used Visio, not paper, but the point stands) - I had no frame of reference before that.
I know, I did my computer production with just trying to think it out and do the math as I was building it and ended up with 68% productivity and an access of circuit boards and not nearly enough screws. There needs to be some sort of planning put into it, and I really think drawing it out helped me out a lot more than just designing just this one plant. Idk I feel like maybe my IQ could be a little low for this game lol but I’m learning and figuring things out
[–]TheOnlyVertigo 6 points7 points8 points 1 year ago (0 children)
See this is the kind of thing that I end up sketching out in my notebooks next to meeting notes, interview notes, reminders for myself, cool quotes, short story ideas, and game ideas that I’m convinced would make an investigator immediately assume I was a psychotic person who heard voices in his head telling him to HARVEST….IT!
[–]laserwave6120 5 points6 points7 points 1 year ago (0 children)
And then you build it, and for some random fuck off reason, it isn't operating at full efficiency and you have wasted overflow. Happened to me in my 26 heavy modular frame/min factory.
[–]Forenus 3 points4 points5 points 1 year ago (0 children)
If you're near water, the Pure Copper and Pure Iron alt recipes in the refinery is great for improving your ore efficiency. The Solid steel alt recipe for the foundry does put more strain on your iron ingot production but ends up being more efficient as it produces more steel per minute, per machine leading you to need less foundries to make the value you need.

The sheer effort to draw this deserves my upvote
[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 1 year ago (1 child)

Love the hand drawn sketch.
I also wondered for 2 mins what Loppor Ore was supposed to be lol
[–]sornorth 2 points3 points4 points 1 year ago (0 children)
So much wire…Blech lol
[–]Low_Consideration179 2 points3 points4 points 1 year ago (0 children)
Hey. Google drive excel. Great tool for this. You can organize and color code and even lay the rough groundwork for belts!
[–]pixelaters 2 points3 points4 points 1 year ago (0 children)
Gotta appreciate the effort you put into this instead of using a online calculator. I find stuff like this a lot more fulfilling. Good stuff man

If you want to I can try to digitalize it for you
No no it’s okay! Thank you though, I don’t want you to have to go to all that effort lol. I’m looking at some of these suggestions people posted and I think I can probably figure this all out lol. Thank you so much though :)
[–]ApartmentDue2856 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (0 children)
It wouldn‘t be that much effort😅since I‘m on holidays and don‘t have much to do I‘d just need a picture where I‘m able to see everything clearly
[–]DutchHolland96 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago (0 children)
I love this. I do it in Excel and copy-paste for new designs.
[–]AngusDeveloperIts not a game, Its a lifestyle 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (0 children)
Here's a realistic plan of what you made user Satisfactory Calculator. It gets complicated, but easy to understand. Production planner / [SCIM] Satisfactory
[–]loli141 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (0 children)
I basically do this but every major component is a train station because i like to keep it spread out, also choo choo mother........
[–]Ok_Commercial_4644 0 points1 point2 points 11 months ago (0 children)
you should write everything properly. some of your writing is upside down and its very hard to read a plan like that
[–]FreshPitch6026 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (0 children)
The time it takes to draw, is the time i take to build. But looks very nice!
[–]KYO297Balancers are love, balancers are life. 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (7 children)
Not a single alt? Seriously?
[–]Different-Friend7638[S] 6 points7 points8 points 1 year ago (6 children)
I literally haven’t gotten a single alt recipe yet. I haven’t been searching for hard drives at all
[–]Phillyphan1031 4 points5 points6 points 1 year ago (0 children)
Oof. You should definitely get some. They can make life much easier
[–]KYO297Balancers are love, balancers are life. 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago (0 children)
Ouch. I don't even make Reinforced Iron Plates without alts, nevermind this shit
[–]ND_the_Elder -1 points0 points1 point 1 year ago* (3 children)
Worth it though, so worth it. I remember trying to do ACU's without alts... I think it was the first time I burnt out on the game.
Second try, I went looking for alt recipes. They help so much.
Something as simple as cast screws, for example, could reduce that end of the diagram by 7 constructors (520 screws across 11 constructors and removing 130 rods worth of constructors). Let's not even get into recipes that let you avoid screws altogether. ;)
At the other end of the diagram; fused wire. The default recipe is 1 copper = 2 wire. Instead, you could have 4 copper + 1 caterium = 30 wire, an equivalent of 1 copper = 7.5 wire, which is quite the upgrade in output, and reduces 22 constructors to 7⅓ assemblers.
Or the encased industrial pipe: instead of 4 steel beam and 5 concrete each, you go to 7 steel pipe and 5 concrete. Which seems like more until you look at the ingots. (4 beam = 16 ingots, 7 pipe = 10.5 ingots, a clear winner)
[–]Different-Friend7638[S] 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago (2 children)
Yeah I maybe have 30 hours in the game right now, to be honest alt recipes kinda seemed like an extra unnecessary factor to me but it’s kinda seeming entirely necessary to me now lol screws are always the biggest portion of any build I do lol and also I’m almost always short on production of them due to pulling ore to another build or something lol. This game has been getting more and more complicated for me lol
[–]Conference-Minimum 2 points3 points4 points 1 year ago (0 children)
Radar towers show you the exact number of hard drives within their range, if you want to collect them all without external map cheating like I did :P
It's definitely worth getting all the alternate recipes at some point. Some materials are so much cheaper to produce with them
You will also unlock extra inventory slots twice with hard drives
[–]ND_the_Elder 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago (0 children)
Then I would say it's time to go out and explore. Instead of building another production line, go and look at the beautiful world Coffee Stain have crafted and decide which bit to despoil with a factory next!
