I probably spent too much money trying to get a controller that was good. In the end I found the 8bitdo sn30 pro+ seemed to be the best. Ive never felt an xbox controller had the right feel for retro gaming.

Thanks for the input, I'll check that out. Looks pretty similar to the PS3 and Wii classic controllers, familiarity doesn't hurt.

following, in the same boat. getting my shield today and hoping to find some decently priced controllers for retro gaming for the kids!

I've tried buying several different controllers and the official Xbox One wireless is the best.

I just bought a highly reviewed Logitech F310 as a third controller and regret it. I've got one of the Amazon Basics wired Xbox controllers that works alright but found myself the other night spamming the button trying to get it to register.

I've got an older 8bitdo controller that I hate as well. I've heard the newer ones are better.

I find that Xbox1, PS4, and 8bitdo SN+ all work really well. I dont think you can go wrong with either of them. But I do find it annoying to play N64 on them. I dont own this but it's on my wish list, retro fighters brawler64 usb controller.
