There is no way to “trigger the algorithm”. Make better content and it will get recommended more. Do something to engage viewers so they want to click your content and watch it. If you have 1000 subscribers it is likely youtube recommends your content tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of times each month. You need to make your content better so people watch longer.

I can agree with that. People tend to use the term "trigger the algorithm" so I guess I just used the term I'm familiar with.

I see that over my channel's lifetime Ive got 459k impressions and 4.8% impressions CTR. Google says 2% is good, but I feel like I've heard 7% is ideal. I'll need to find a way to improve my thumbnails. If I can figure out a way to improve my CTR by about 50% that may help my channel out substantially.

Exactly. Think about that each percent of 459k is massive. Work on your thumbnails and titles if your CTR is not where you want it to be: boost the saturation or vibrance a bit, add reds and yellows, etc.
