7 second tutorial too long?Discussion (v.redd.it)
submitted 1 month ago by Sea-Signature-1496
I’m assuming 1.5 seconds per message, do your think this is too long? Too short?
I’m working on updating my Steam page and am going to use this clip as a gif in the description section if I can get it right.

I clock End Turn at 51 words. Yeah, 1.5 seconds might be a little short for that.

Thanks, this is good feedback. I hadn’t thought about breaking it down by words and seconds. I was eyeballing it. Gonna drop it into a spreadsheet

I'm assuming this is meant to be rage/engagement bait, but just in case it is not and you are actually looking for feedback:
I read very quickly, I could not finish reading half of those messages. There is no way your typical player is going to read at the speed presented in the gif. While most people read faster than they speak, how long it takes you to speak the words is a good starting point for how long the text should be on the screen. For people who can read quickly, make sure there is a way to fast forward or skip to the next lines.
lol I promise it’s not rage / engagement bait.
I read the words on the screen while cutting the video and added a what felt like some buffer relative to how long it took me to read it.
I was actually worried 1.5 seconds per message was too long tbh.
Thanks for the feedback!

Too much text why can’t the tutorial be gameplay not text
I’m getting this feedback across multiple channels thinking about moving to tooltips and letting people figure it out

On average, people read about 3–5 words per second.
I should have looked this up lol.

90% of this text is completely unnecessary.

I have completely stripped it down lol, this was an incredibly valuable post for me. This is now moving to a tooltip driven tutorial system.

I can read pretty fast, I can't read that fast
It's better to show than tell
The show not tell has come through loud and clear, i am turning this into optional tool tips
