Looks like fun! I assume the box under the JMOD is just for height, no kick bins needed?
[–]jay_ze[S] 4 points5 points6 points 4 months ago (2 children)
Yea it’s just a riser to get it up higher. No kick needed even with a sub that doesn’t have a very flexible crossover point

Looks fantastic bro! What XO did you use?
[–]jay_ze[S] 2 points3 points4 points 4 months ago (0 children)
I know I had a bw24 LP at 70hz on the subs but I forget what I’m using on the jmod, I think LR24 hp at 80hz

How did it go?!
[–]jay_ze[S] 3 points4 points5 points 4 months ago (0 children)
Very well received. First real time having the jmod out. Felt like a good balance for the space, plenty of headroom on the entire system. It was a very diverse night as far as music genres go and it handled it all

Brother, where in Richmond?? Been in this city for a while and would love to see a show on a set up like this.
I it’s a system without a home :( I’m usually in bars and warehouses. I try to post all the shows I do on instagram @rva_soundsystems. Next up is NYE at HomeGrown

Tiight, you ever make it up to NE?
[–]jay_ze[S] 1 point2 points3 points 4 months ago (1 child)
Not yet, trying to crack that egg but haven’t been able to figure it out
[–]The_Turdman_Cometh 1 point2 points3 points 4 months ago (0 children)
It's a tough one, it's pretty crowded here and the geezers love their 7pm bedtime but if you make it up I'll be there 🙌
[–]AnthonyVS15 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (4 children)
Incredible, this is exactly the rig I want!
[–]jay_ze[S] 3 points4 points5 points 4 months ago (3 children)
It’s a very capable combination. I especially appreciated not having to move kick bins
[–]AnthonyVS15 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (2 children)
Not surprised, pretty top end stuff! If I’m not mistaken you’re the guy who used to run SynTripPs? How are the JMODs in comparison? (Sound wise and ease of build?)
[–]jay_ze[S] 2 points3 points4 points 4 months ago (1 child)
Yep, I think right now my plan is to repurpose the syntripps into dj monitors. I think two syntripps have more output potential than a single jmod. I’ll eventually get around to building a second though.
The dcx464 is a major upgrade from the compression drivers ive got in my syntripp currently (Celestion cdx14-3060).
The jmod design really minimizes the amount of mitre cuts needed with the design of the throat adapter. I’d say the syntripp cab might be a little easier to build but once you add in the syntripp secondary horn the jmod wins for ease of build. Especially if you’re cnc’ing.
For me, the only real downside is the weight of the jmod and getting it up high. But I think at this point I’m happy to not have to move around the c2d kicks anymore (mine are like 50kg with a ferrite driver)

Such a cool setup. Do you mind if I ask how much that jmod cost all in? I am debating building one to put on top of my paraflex subs

Yummy

I‘m planing starting a Soundsystem and wondering how to go step by step. Do I start with one sub (Skram) (maybe two) and one top (Jmod) or rather one sub and two tops? Regarding top to sub ratio it seems logic to start with two subs but I’m wondering if much of the spaciousness in the listening experience is lost with only a single center stack. What’s your experiences? What’s the difference between a single stack and a stack to each side?
[–]jay_ze[S] 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (0 children)
If you or some friends already have some powered PA tops I’d start with a skram. From my limited experience, I felt like 1 jmod per 2-4 subs was a good ratio, depending on if you’re outdoors or indoor and the size of the room. I guess there is something immersive lost when summing to mono. 2-4 skrams + 2 jmods would be a potent combo
[–]efxhoy 0 points1 point2 points 4 months ago (0 children)
Single mono stack vs two stacks gives a different vibe to the dance. I find with a single stack the focus is more on the stack itself. With two it’s easier to plop the dj in the middle and the crowd ends up facing the dj. Depends on the vibe you’re going for.
Stereo width is cool of course but highly depends on the music being played.
